Accident Victim
Dies From
Injuries Received
John Walden, 27-year-old son of
Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Walden of
Huron Township, died in Univer-
sity. Hospital, London on' Wednes-
day of last week, April 23rd.
John had been seriously injured
in a motor accident at the
intersection of "Highway 21 and the
8th concession of Huron four weeks
previous to his death. .
The funeral service was held
Saturday at the 'McLennan
McCreath Funeral Home in Ripley
with burial in Ripley Cemetery.
The Lucknow Minor Hockey
Association has been presented
with a.' gift of $2000 from Paul
Henderson of Toronto, presently a
member of Toronto TorOs in the
World Hockey Association and
formerly of , National Hockey
League and, Team Canada fame.
Paul is . the son of Mrs. Evelyn
Henderson of Lucknow and the late
Garnet Henderson and played all
his minor hockey in the Sepoy
Town before taking the step to
junior and later professional hock-
ey. Paul is married to the former
Eleanor Alton of West Wawanosh.

show.
The dirge attractive winner's
trophy has arrived with the society.
It will be retained for one year by
the winner before, being passed on
to the following year's champion

munity Service Night on Saturday
evening' at which time Biil Hunter
was honoured for 'his contribution
to recreation in Lucknow and
District. Paul advised Reeve Joynt
that a gift of money, was being sent
to be presented to the Lucknow
Minor Hockey Association to be
used in, the development of
youngsters in the Lucknow area.
The cheque was sent by courier
service and was received by Reeve
Joynt at his house' at 4 a.m.
Saturday morning.

SERVICE NIGHT
Three Lucknow service organiz-
ations joined to' hold• Lucknow's
first Community Service Night
Saturday and present an award for
outstanding community service in
the field of recreation.

Seated in the chair presented to

chairman of the Lucknow Remo-
tion Committee and honoured
citizen of the evening. Bill was
unaware that he was to be
recognized until called to the
platform midway through the
banquet at the Legion Hall.
Died In Hospital
Mrs. Louis Weatherhead of
Lucknow passed away in Wingham
and District Hospital On Wednes-
day, April 23rd• in her 95th year.
The funeral service was held On
Saturday, April 26th at MacKenzie
Manorial Chapel, Lucknow. '-
Temporary entombment was at
South Kitiloss Mausoleum.
Lucknow's first Community Ser-
vice Night, a joint project of the
Lucknow Legion Branch 309, The
Lucknow. District Lions Club and
The Lucknow Kinsmen Club, was a
fine success on Saturday evening of -
last week. Two hundred tickets
were available for the event and the
demand was such that they were
unavailable about a week prior to
the evening. An equal .number of
tickets was made available to each
of the three organizations.
The community service night had•
as its theme the recognition of one
of its citizens who had contributed
in an outstanding manner in
making the community a better
place to live. The individual
honoured was Bill Hunter who was
.recognized for his contribution to
recreation in Lucknow and sur-
rounding area.
Charles Webster acted as chair-
man for the evening which
commenced. with Grace being said
by Legion Padre, Rev. George
Garrott. Evans Helm of the
Kinsmen Club proposed, a toast to
The Queen. Mr. Webster extended
a welcome to all present and
expressed his hope that the
evening would become an annual
one. He said that all three service
groups work for the betterment of
their community.
A turkey dinner was provided to

the gathering of 195 people by
Trinity United Church Women.
Jim Morrison of the Kinsmen
thanked the ladies and this was
replied to-by Mrs. Charles Wilkins.
Thanks was extended to Mrs. Tom
Pritchard who proyided dinner
music on the Riano.
Charles Webster introduced the
head table: Angus MacDonald,
president of the Lucknow Legion,
and Mrs. MacDonald; Barry Mc-
Donagh, president of the Lucknow
Lions, and Mrs. McDonagh; Tony
Johnstone, president of Lucknow
Kinsmen, and Mrs. Johnstone;
Floyd Stanley, guest speaker for
the evening; Mrs.' Charles Web-
ster.

Wins Groceries At
Official Opening
The official grand opening of
Whales Super Market in Lucknow
was held last week. Each customer
signing their cash register slip was
eligible for $20 worth of free
grocerie§.
The draw was made Tuesday
morning by Don Thompson and the
winner was Mrs. Lloyd Simmons of
R. R. 1 Wroxeter.
