Unit '2 of Lucknow United Church ' Women was held at the home of Miss'Lorna Campbell with 17 members and 1 guest present. Mrs. Vernon Hunter opened the meeting with a reading "Easter Messages" fol- lowed by a hymn and the Lord's prayer. Roll call was answered by an Easter verse. Miss Lorna Camp- bell gave the treasurer's report. Stewardship report was given by Mrs. Eldon Ritchie with a reading, "Tomorrow". Mrs. Eldon Henderson gave a reading on Dr. Harriet Christie, who was the first woman to be nominated for moderator. She was the only woman college principal. A fund to educate women in developing countries is being started as a memorial lo Dr. Christie, who died at the age of 62. Mrs. Henderson also read a poem "God Bless You". Social functions report was given by Mrs. Kirkland. Remember the Thankoffering on April 10th. Mrs. Pearl Murdie opened the program with a reading "Secret". Mrs. Magoffin read the scripture, meditation and prayer. Mrs. Houston _read, "Spring Cleaning" and "The Birds Go North Again". Our guest speaker, Mrs. Ross Shiells, spoke on "What does Easter mean to you". Mrs. Shiells was thanked by Mrs., Barger. The meeting closed with hymn 485 and the benediction. Lunch was served by the committee. Unit 4 U.C.W. 4 Psalm 4 and Mrs. Roy Havens followed with prayer. In Christ there is no East or West. was sung. Mrs. Harvey Webster introdriced the topic of the Green Paper on Immigration with some background information. Mrs. Campbell Thompson read an Article called "Colour Question", most difficult of immigration issues and Mrs. Roy Havens read articles by Charles Lynch and the editor of the London Free Press. The ladies broke into discussion groups concerning pos- sible immigration situations. The meeting was dosed with the benediction and the committee served lunch. *4 Lucknow Presbyterian Church Rey. Holy Land The April meeting of Unit 5 of Lucknow United Church Women was held at the home of Mrs. Doug Kaufman with an attendance of 18 members and .1 visitor. Mrs. Charlie Anderson opened the meeting• with the poem "Friend- ship Is Like a Tree" followed by all joining in singing hymn 550. The roll call was answered by an Easter thought. Mrs. Robert Campbellgave the treasurer's report and Mrs. Russell Button reported on social functions. Mrs.. Gordon Morrison reported on stewardship, Mrs. Armstrong Wil- son on coma unity friendship and Mrs. Gerald Priestap on christian education. The Thankoffering meeting will be held in the church on Thursday, April 10th, guest speaker will be Miss Lavonne Ballagh of Wing- ham. Mugs and spoons were displayed. These are on sale to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the United Church. The scripture was taken by Mrs. Allan Gibson followed by Hymn 86. Mrs. Gerald Priestap read the meditation and Mrs. Lorne Cook closed the meeting with a prayer. (Young People) Friday at 7:30 p.m. Whitechurch UCW WHITECHURCH NEWS On Wednesday, April ' 2nd Whitechurch United Church Wom- en held their meeting at 2 p.m. at the home. of Mrs. Wardrop. Mrs. Whytock opened the meet- ing, the topic being Christ is Risen. All sang Christ the LOrd is risen today. Mrs. Russel Chapman led in prayer. Mrs. Dave Gibb gave a reading, The Last Room about a C.G.I.T.' girl visiting an old people's home and her reactions to their way of life. Mrs. Whytock gave an account of a 50th wedding anniver- sary,in 1849. Mrs. Chapman gave church notes on a bulletin board in 1849. Mrs. Fred Tiffin read the scripture, Matthew 6: 18-21. Mrs. Whytock gave a prayer by Rev. Wilkens in 1849 asking for safety of the negroes escaping to Canada,. for Indian friends and for safety of immigrants arriving from the Old CoUntry. Mrs. Fred Tiffin led in prayer. Mrs. Russel Chapman called 'the 'roll answered by 8 members 'with shopping tips to stretch the budget. The 'offering was . dedicated by Mrs. Milian Moore. Mrs. Moore gave the courtesy remarks and closed the meeting with prayer. The hostess Mrs. Wardrop served lunch. Unit 1 U.C.W. Lucknow United Church Women Unit '1 held their regular meeting on Tuesday afternoon, April 1st at the home of Mrs. Wes Ritchie.' Mrs. Sam Gibson opened the meeting with a, poem "Easter Tidings",followed by hymn 86 and prayer. " There. were 16'members and 2 visitors present. The roll call was' answered with an Easter verse. Mrs. Walter Dexter gave a reading "A Friendly Thought" and the report on community friend- ship. Mrs. Al Irwin gave a reading on Stewardship. Mrs. Pete Cook gave the treasurer's report to the present time and Mrs. Bill Hunter convener for social functions gave the report of catering to the dairy producers dinner and thanked all who had helped in' any way. • . We . were reminded of the Thankoffering meeting . in the church on Thursday, April 10th at 8 p.m. 'It was announced that the next general meeting will. be on 'June 12th 'at 7 p.m.' when we were asked to bring articles 'for, crafts including plastic containers . with lids, brown. paper bags; .1dt-over rolls of • wallpaper,. binder . twine, remnants of 'coloured yarn and Cloth, empty wooden spOols, old newspapers and pipe cleanerS.• We were reminded .of the, hobby sale to be, held at. our May meeting. Mrs. Eva McCullough on the parable of the ."Good Samari- tan!' and was followed by prayer. Mrs, Pete Cook and Mrs. Stewart MacGillivray sang 'a duet "Alone" acCompanied by Mrs. Wes Ritchie, °which was enjoyed. Mrs. Treleaven very capably gave: the study book on our changing roll- hi missions to-day, especially in teaching people. to help themselves., Mrs. Wes Ritchie gave an instrumental. and Mrs. Treleaven closed with hymn 373 and the benediction. Lunch was served by the, hostess and committee in., charge of the meeting. Mrs. George Joynt was hostess for the April meeting of Unit 4 of the United Church Women. Mrs. Leonard Ritchie opened the meet- ing with a poem,, "Father Where Shall I Work Today?" A hymn was sung followed by prayer. • Eleven members and two visitors answered the roll call. ,with an Easter, verse. A letter from the Kings at Cape Croker was read. The offering was dedicated. Samples of mugs and spoons' with the United Church Crest- were • passed around and orders taken. The spring Thankoffering will be • held on April 10th at 8.00 p.m. Mrs. Havens reported from Social Funtions on dinners served this year. A hymn was sung and Mrs. Harvey Webster read "Be Air Active Member". Misses Mary Ellen Havens and Gail Pritchard entertained with two piano duets. Mrs. Campbell Thompson read Spoke On Trip To Holy Land The Easter Thankoffering meet7. ing of South KinlOss Women's Missionary Society was held at the home of Mrs. Leonard Machines: The president, Mrs. Ira Dickie opened the meeting with a poem "Message of Easter" and welcom- ed 25 members, 4 visitors and 3 children to the meeting: The. hynin, "Jesus keep me near the Cross" was sting followed with prayer by Mrs. Dickie. An Easter meditation followed from the Glad Tidings and was given by Mrs. Evan . Keith and Mrs. Bruce Hamilton. Members were remined of the invitation to Lucknow on, April*15th at 8 p.m.; also the Presbyterial in Teeswater on May 5th, afternoon and evening sessions, with speaker Miss Margaret Kennedy. Delegate to Presbyterial is Mrs. 'Lorne Sparks'. A committee of Mrs. Evan Keith, Mrs. Ira Pickle and Mrs. Harry Lavis were appointed to plan for a Centennial meeting, possibly in July. The roll call was answered with an Easter verse. Mrs. Andrew , Gaunt showed slides and told of her trip to the Holy Land. Mrs. Gaunt concluded her talk with the poem "I Walked To-day Where . Jesus Walked". Mrs. Dickie thanked the speaker and presented her with a gift. The meeting took part in a sing song, followed by the offering- and offertory prayer by Mrs. Leonard Clarke. Mrs. Douglas Graham gave an Easter Prayer. Courtesy remarks were by Mrs. Harold Austin. The closing hymn "0 Master let me walk with Thee" was sung and the closing prayer was given by.
