Club News
The bi-monthly meeting of the.
Ripley and District Lions Club was
held on March 12 following a
smorgasbord supper catered to by
the ladies of Purple Grove.
The meeting was opened by Lion
Bill Kempton who announced the
annual Lion Skating Carnival would
be held on Thursday, March 27.
Special features this year will be
costume classes representing the
old Boys Reunion 'in August.
A motion was passed to support .
Jim Elliott in the .sale of, shaving
permits to anyone not growing a
beard for the Ripley. Reunion.
Lion secretary Charles Liddle
was asked to write to the
Woodstock Choralaires to obtain a
date for a concert to be held
sometime in the fall. Plans were
set for District A-9 Convention in
Stratford and Multile District A
convention in Hamilton.
Bob Fair reported on an interclub
visit to Teeswater to which Lions
Dan MacDonald, Bob 'Fair, Alan
McLean and Bernie Twolen, had
attended. They heard the final
speeches that are being sponsored
by that club for the Lions Public
Speaking competition.
The meeting closed with a
Chinese Auction won by Lion Bob
Fair.

Variety Show Was
Successful Event
On Friday Night
An excellent Variety Concert,
sponsored by the Lucknow Agricul-
tural ,Society, was presented in the
Lucknow Central Public School on
Friday evening, March 21st. A
large crowd was on hand to enjoy
an everting the community has
come to look, forward to. The
program opened with a vocal; trio
by Nancy; Ruth and Grace Alton
accompanied by Barbara Cameron
on the piano. A guitar solo by
Gordon Alton, brought back mem-
ories for the audience.
The president of , the Agricultural
Society; Glen Walden, welcomed
all to the program and announced
some of the coming events of the
society, noting especially the Lionel
Thornton dance on April 4th at
Brookside School.
A humorous play "The Rest
Room", with its setting in the
lounge of a local department store,
caused many laughs for . the
audience. The cast, all members of
the society, included Mr. and Mrs.
,Vernon Hunter, Mr. and Mrs. Herb
Wilkins, Mr. and Mrs. Ross
Errington, Mr. and Mrs. Russel
Irvin, Mrs. June Gilchrist, Mrs.
Marilyn Johnson, Mrs. Marlene
.Struthers and Bob- Campbell.
Steven Pritchard favoured the
audience • with a vocal solo,
accompanied by 'his mother Ann
Pritchard. Charlie Farquharson
arrived in the persdn of Murray
Gilchrist and entertained with his
wit and wisdom.
A skit revealing the lives of Mr.
and Mrs. Ross Errington, Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Struthers and Mr. and
Mrs. Vernon Hunter, in, song and
spoken 'word, proved very enjoy-
able. The singers for this number
were Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Cranston,
Mr. and Mrs. Ming Cameron, Mrs.
Ruth Bell and Don Cameron. Mrs.
Ruth Alton. was. pianist .and Frank
Alton acted as narrator.
The audience enjoyed an accord-
ian solos by Lori Hackett.. A group
of young people from Teeswater
entertained in a unicycle act.
Riding the unicycles were Sandra
Thompson . and Kathy McGlynn
with Philip Thompson, Patricia
Stewart and Sheila Whitehead
assisting in the performance.
David Hartin of .Dungannon
entertained' with his impersona-
tions of many television personal-
ities. Appearing for the first time
on live stage were "The Whist-
lers" resembling Herb Wilkins,
Bob Gilchrist, Bob Struthers and
Ross Errington„
The concert was brought to a
successful conclusion by the choir •
of the Christian Reformed Church
singing "The Happy Wanderer"
and "The Old Rugged Cross".
They 'were directed by Don
Cameron and accompanied on the
piano by Barbara Cameron.
The singing of 0 Canada closed,
another very successful and enter-
taining Variety Show for the
Agricultural Society..

purchase the MacDonald Garage in
Lucknow for a fire hall, providing •
the other municipalities are favour-
' able.
By-law 5, 1975, to provide for the
registration of 'dogS., the collection
of a licence fee from the owners
and for , regulating the running at
large of dogs in the Township of
Ashfield was given three readings
and passed.
Duncan Farrish was engaged to
call on all owners and issue ,a dog
tag for every dog within the
Township and, collect the licence
fee as followS:
For 1 male dog or spayed female,
$5.00 per year; for 1 female dog,
$10.00 per year; for each additional
dog, $10.00 per year; for a kennel
licence, $25.00 per year.
Any dog, whether on the
premises where it is kept or if it is
found running at large without a
tag will be impounded and the
owner will be required to pay to the
Treasurer of the Township of
Ashfield a sum not exceeding
$10.00,. plus $4.00 per day, until
the owner shall have caused, the
dog to be licenced. '
It shall be lawful for the Reeve of
the Township to direct that a dog
be destroyed if it is running at large
and can not be impounded.
A request for , supplementary
allocation of subsidy , monies of
$33,000 was passed and forwarded
to the Ministrb of Transportation
and CoMmunication. If this is
granted, .the total road program for
1975 would be approximately
$220,000.
The meeting adjourned and the
next regular meeting will be one
day early on March 31St, at 7.30
p.m.

Seven tables of euchre were in
play at the card party held, at the
community centre on Monday
evening. Awarded high ladies'
prize was Mrs. Howard Thompson ;
after a cut between Harvie
Thompson and Don RobertsOn high '-
men's went to Don Robertson.
Mr. and Mrs. Burton, Collins
visited with Mr. and Mrs.. Bob
Thompson on Tuesday evening.
Mrs.• Claude Dore Sr. of Bervie
and Mrs. Harvey Thompson visited
on Sunday afternoon with Miss
Merele Stuartof Brucelea Haven in
Walkerton.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Reid visited
Saturday evening with Mr. and
Mrs. Harvey Needham.
Mrs. Wilda Thompson, Wray
Thompson and Mrs. Claude Dore
Sr. of Bernie spent the early part of
this week in •Port Huron, Michigan
shopping and visiting friends and
relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Reid and Mr.
and Mrs: Bob Thompson leave
Thursday for an EaMer week end
trip to Nashville, Tenn.
Happy "birthday to Mrs. Don
Reid, son Larry, daughter Sandra
and to Don Reid (March 29) also to
Robbie Thom'pson, who all cele-
brated their birthdays in the past
two weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Gawley
visited on Saturday evening with
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Collins, . and
family and on Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Don Chadbourne and Tracey
in Kincardine. Mrs. -Chadbourne
(Velma Gawley) has been confined
to her bed for the past week and a
half with back trouble..
Mr. and. Mrs. Don Robertson
visited on' Thursday evening with
Mr. and Mrs-. Russell Collins.
"Family Night" at the commun-
ity centre has been, re-planned for
the evening of April 4. Although
hinch arrangements are incomplete
as yet, it is no longer planned as a
pot luck supper.
Mr. and" Mrs. Burton Collins
visited Goderich on Saturday
with Mr. and Mrs. Ed McGillivray
and Kelly and on Sunday. with Mr.
and 'Mrs. Wib Emmerton.
• Mr. and Mrs. Francis 'Boyle
attended a couple's Leadership
Conference in Bolton near Toronto
over the week end.
• Kathy Farrell, daughter. of Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Farrell, visited with
the Boyle family on Sunday
evening. Kathy spent the week
end in Toronto at a Jr. Farmers
conference. •
Mrs. Joyce Farrell and Miss
Dianne MacKay are taking the
leadership training 'to teach this
years 4-H Garden Club.
The Ripley Bantam "E" team
won 'two straight games over
Zurich and, will go on to meet
Tiverton in the consolation series.
Blyth has claimed the champion.
