RIPLEY
CURLING NEWS
By Don McLay
One of the busiest weeks of the
season is underway at the local
.club. Friday, the High School
wound up' their bonspiel with Julie
Reeves and her rink coming out the
winners. Congratulations to Julie
and her crew! .
Saturday saw the Club Mixed
Wind-up' spiel concluded with Don
McLay's foursome of Barbara
Liddle, Sandy Pollock and John
Coiling winning the 9 o'clock draw
with three wins and' a plus of, ten.
President Sandy MacCharies pres-
ented the winners with the Ross H.
Martyn Memorial Trophy and Jene
Sellers, Manager of the Royal
Bank, presented silver 'pen and
pencil sets. For this writer,
winning the Wind-up ivas the
culmination of a twelve-.year
dream, so I am grateful, for the
assistance of the very capable
curlers who made it possible.
J. S. Robb, curling with Gladys
Nicholson, Ed Fink' and Ruth
Patterson took the 11 o'clock draw
with two wins and a plus of eleven.
Jack Scott's rink of Midge Funston,
Ivan Cook and Beverly Peterbaugh
took second place on the early draw
. with two wins and a plus of one.
Third place went to Mervin
Funston curling with Dianne
Brooks, Jene Seler and Alice
Gamble with one win plus three.
Second place on the later draw
went to Jim MacDonald's rink
assisted by June Paquette, Harry
Scott and Doug Lackey with two
wins plus nine. The winner of the
third spot was Gary Courtney'S
entry of Peg MacCharles, Bob
Lyons and Kate Hunter with two
wins plus eight. '
A feature of the day and
indicating the closeness of play
was the fact that there were no
three-game losers. Each of the
following skips piloted their rinks
to a record of one -win and two
losses: Bert Elliott, Bill Peter-
baugh, JOhn D. Coiling, Jim
Elliott, Ron Funston and Charles
Liddle.
A draw was held for a prize
donated by bonspiel converter
CarriCk Coiling and, was won by
Charles Liddle.
Club playoffs will take up most of
this week,,with the annual eighteen
rink Ferguson bonspiel on the week
end. Final games for, the Men's
Club and the ThurSday Mixed draw
will take place at eight p.m.,
Monday,' March 31st.
All events for, Thursday, March
27th, have been cancelled because
of the annual Ripley and District
Lions Club carnival at the Ripley
arena.
Members are' invited to the
annual Fun Night and social
evening to wind up the curling
season 'on Tuesday, April Is+ ,

Reunion News
"Have you got a permit?"
That's the most frequently asked
question around Ripley these days.
If the answer is no, Jim Elliott and
his "Beard Growing Boys" will
soon solve your problems. The
permits "not to grow beards" are
selling like hot cakes, particularily
as so many work where beards are
prohibited. However, there are a
few scraggies.that may, by August,
become luxuriant growths!
"Have you any pictures?" This
is Adeline Hackett's question as,
you go to the library. She and' the
rest of the historical Committee are
looking for old pictures. They hope
to have a good showing by Reunion
time. Names and addresses are
coming in, and if you still haven't
sent your families in, please do so
soon, as we hope to have a letter
out within the next 2 weeks. Please
phone or write Don MacTavish or
Mrs: Wallace Pollock, R. R. 2.
Ripley.
See you at the Reunion, 'cause
RIPLEY'S ALIVE IN 75.
