In the first:game Mike Dennis opened the scoring for the kings assisted by Ken Ritchie. Glen Haldenby tied the score early in the third period. David Van Osch, from Ken Ritchie, put the Kings ahead neat the midway mark of the third period. -Mark Gunter .from Michael Hayes tied the score for the Flyers with about one minute to play sending the game . into penalty shots to decide a winner. , On the first five' -penalty shots Rick Harman and Shane Hickey each dented the twine for the Flyers While Mike McDonagh and Jim Van Osch replied for the Kings. On th.e next five penalty shots. Mark HaIdenby scored for the Flyers while Eddie Van Osch banged •one home for the Kings. On the next five penalty Shots no one was able to beat the goalies. In sudden death shots Ken Ritchie dented the winner to finally end the game with the Kings edging the Flyers 6 to 5. Believe me. the fension was great' on all 34 shots. - The Kings then advanced to the consolatiOn round. Lucknow Pee Wee team of 1949. now registered in the Hall of Fame as the 49ers. show ed great talent against the Goderich 1949. team. The game lilas played at the Goderich Young Canada Pee Wee. hockey tournament on Saturday night where, 26 years before, this same Lucknow team had won the championship at the first Goderich tournament. It was a close game throughout with only . one goal separating the teams. The Lucknow team claims to be undefeated in 26 years. The 49ers were out-shot but their goalie allowed them two, goals just to make it a close game. With only one 'very minor injury to the 49ers, their team Doctor was able to devote all his time to the Profession of Hockey. A number .of the 49ers had not had skates on for 5 to 10 years but The "Stars of Yesterday", the 1949 Championship Pee Wee Hockey team from Lucknow, Met the "Stars of Today", the Lucknow Kinsmen Team of 1975 in a hockey match of considerable interest at 1- p.m. Sunday -at Lucknow Arena. Final score was 4-4 with Jim Peterson of the Pee Wees, who is also a member of Lueknow. 'Kinsmen Club, tieing the score with about 3 minutes to play. Kinsmen took a 2 - 0 lead in the first period on goals by Stu Thompson and Murray Johnston. The Pee Wees tied the score before the end of the period on a goal by George Collinson. There was no scoring in the second period. In the second game' the Sabres edged the Seals 1 to 0 to, advance to the . championship round. Kevin Machan notched the lone goal for the Sabres with Eric Courtney receiving an assist. Mike Frayne recorded the shut out. In the third game, the Canucks edged the Kings 2 to 1 to win the consolation trophy. Mark Abbott opened the scoring for the Canucks in the second period. Shawn Drennan increased the lead in the third period. The Kings fought back with, a goal •by Morris Van Osch but failed to tie the game. Congratulations, Canticks! In the final game the Sabres blanked the Islanders 4 to 0 to win the championship trophy. John O'Keefe led the attack with 1 goal and 2 assists, Eric Courtney 1 goal and 1 assist; Eddie Husk and Kevin Machan each notched a goal for the Sabres. Mike Frayne played another stand out game for the Sabres while registering 'his 13th shut out of the season. Congratu- lations, Sabres! 'The 3 goals scored were credited to the whole team as all played as a team and fought for a win. The 49ers decided (if possible) to make this an annual event. In the third the Kinsmen scored two in a row by Terry Rathwell and Harvey Livingston, only to have the Old Timers bounce back with three goals in succession by Steve ,Carnegie, Roy Emberlin and Jim Peterson. One of the' unfortunate parts of the game was late in the third period when Harold "Toby" Greer, who was assisting the Pee Wees, and who was' introduced by M.C. Bill Hunter as from the Pee Wee team' of 1929, fell into the boards striking his head. He was unconscious for a short period. Toby was wearing a helmet which ,probably saved him. from much more , serious injury. No one else was involved in the spill which happened with about a minute to play in the game. Barry. Johnston' of Kinloss and Don Fludder of Ripley refereed the game; The Kinsmen sponsored game raised about $200' which is the start of the fund earmarked for furnish- ings and equipment at the medical Centre. , Mrs. Ernie Gibson was the winner of a glass turkey in a draw run at the game. The Pee Wees, wives -and families were entertained at the Kinsmen Club House following the game. WEDPg1 Injury Riddlecl Juvenilet Had To Win Last Night Lucknow Juvenile Hockey team, dOwn two games in the 0 .M.H.A. semifinal round against Watford, was scheduled to play the third" game against. Watford in Lucknow last night (Tuesday), too late to be included in thisissue,. A loss for Lucknow would mean "quits" for this season. In the first game in Watford last ThurSday, March 20th, Lucknow lost by a 6-4 score. - Ian Montgomery scored 3 of Lucknow's goals and Kevin Ackert picked up a goal and two assists. One assist each went to Murray Thompson, Stewart Mann and Kevin Murray. On Sunday evening, in Lucknow, Watford was victorious by 'a 5-1 score, Stewart Mann scored Lucknow's goal, assisted by Kevin Ackert. The injury riddled Lucknow team, coupled with other assorted absences including suspensions for fighting and unsportsmen like conduct, has left the team in very poor playoff shape. Manager Bill Hunter expected a mere 9 men for duty at Tuesday's game, plus 'two goal tenders. Full strength is about 15 'plus the goal tenders. Thedford Series Goes Five Games Last Thursday night s4w the Jubilee arena nearly packed to see the team take on Thedford, and come out with a 3-2 victory. Johnny Elliott got 2 of the goals, with Mike Gallant getting the other marker. Saturday night down in Thedford was quite a different story, with the Ripley squad ending up, on the wrong side of an 8 - 4 decision, Dave MacDonald, Courtney Liddle, Johnny Elliott and Greg Liddle did the scoring, with Greg getting assists on the other 3 goals. • The Sth and deciding game will be in Ripley on Saturday, March 29 at 8 p.m. • Speak up—the world is much too busy to liSten to whispci.s.
