On: March' 6, Holyrood and Kintail Recreation Hockey teams met in the 1st game of the finals for the championship. The final score was 6-5 for Holyrood. Ther is a rule in the league that "You must play three games Prior to Christinas or you cannot play in the playoffs". Kititail was using a player who had not played three games before Christmas and there was some grunibling in our dressing room that he shouldn't be allowed to play: HoWever, being mature adult§ we decided not to . make a fuss about it and play them anyway. Imagine the shock and disbelief when we realized Kintail ented a rule for the playoffs to suggest one of our players should sit out one game. In the dialogue following the game we were tempted 'to get involved in a battle of wits but agreed not to' fight an unarmed foe. ' • In short, our guys enjoy the exercise, corripetition; fun and fellowship connected with Recrea- tion Hockey, but we agreed that if Kintail were such poor sports that they protested a game over a triviality then "Let them have the trophy" , and yes go ahead celebrate. `Kintail Champs" - Champs of what?, certainly not hockey as we proved we're the better hockey club. You're Champs at protesting and champs at unsportsmanlike *conduct, so go ahead and , celebrate your new championship. We won't degrade ourselves to your level to' counter- protest - nor are we interested in playing' sore losers. For the most part the league pas been well-run and playing in such a league has been a mixture of fun and good competitiveness. Too bad you spoiled it Kintail. Signed: The Management of the Holyrood . Butchers. P.S. For , the record, the Holyrood boys have never protested a game even though many times there JUNIOR PUBLIC SPEAKING CONTEST On February 28, a Public Speaking Contest was held at Brookside Public School for Grade 1, 2 and 3. were grounds to'do so. P.P.S. We understand that many of the Kintail players objected to the protest and wanted to continue the series and we appreciate that many of the Kintail fellows are amiable. Too bad a small nucleus of your team gives the whole lot a bad reputation. We have.a "dressing- room" word to describe that nucleus but we can't put it in print.
