Whitechurch Women's Institute
Agriculture and Canadian 'Indust-
ries meeting was held on Monday
at 2 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Jas.
Wilson, Wingharn;
Miss Merle Wilson presided and
opened the meeting with the„ Ode
and Mary Stewart Collect. She .
gave a poem March. Thank you
notes for Valentine Boxes were
received from Mrs. Bob Ross, Mrs.
Earl Caslick, Mrs. Inglis, Vic
Emerson, Phil Chadwick, Misses
Mary and Annie' Laidlaw, Annie
Kennedy, Ben McClenaghan, Mrs.
Wellwood, Mrs. Ella' Johnston,
Mrs. Orville Tiffin, - Mrs. Violet
Laidlaw, Mrs. Mary Chapman Sr.,
Rtissel Chapman and Mrs. Ivan
Laidlaw for Herb Laidlaw.
The roll call, "Would you like to
be a farmers wife? If not why? If so
why?" was answered, by 15
-members and 3 •visitors. A
nominating committee to bring in a •
slate of officers for the April annual
meeting is Mrs. Bill Rintoul, Mrs.
Garnet Farrier .and Mrs. Victor
Emerson. Mrs. John Currie read
a poem "The .
The motto ."Three grand essen-
tials to happiness in this life are
something to love, something to do
and something to hope for", was
given by Mrs. Tom Metcalfe.
Mrs. Currie introduced the guest
speaker Murray Gaunt M.P,P. Mr.
Gaunt spoke on Agriculture. He
Mrs. Arthur Teasdale, chairman
of the Bruce County W.I. Rally,
was in charge when the executive
met at the home of the secretary-
treasurer Mrs. Ken McKinnon of
Port' Elgin.
Nine members attended the
meeting. Plans were made for the
rally ,which -is to, be held at
Whitechurch on. Thursday, October
16th with Bruce South District as
hostess. Discussion was held on
the byLlaws for the TartairCommit-
tee.
• Lunch was served by the hostess,
assisted by Mrs: Arthur Teasdale.

meeting. A pot luck dinner will be
held at noon at the• April meeting.
Miss WilSon gave the courtesy
remarks.- The Queen and Institute
Grace were sung. The lunch
committee served refreshments.

PURPLE GROVE
The family night planned for the
community centre Friday night was
cancelled due to the sudden death
of Bill Arnold of Ripley, formerly
from the Purple Groye area. The
community extends deepest sym-
, pathy to his wife Gladys and their
family..
A card party with a St. Patrick's
Day theme is pla.nnd for the
Centre.
Neighbours will be sorry to hear
of the death of Hank Parker of
Hamilton. Mr. Parker has been a
summer resident for the past 'three
years since he purchased the
former Gordie Hodgkinson farm on
the 12th of Kinloss Township.
Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Reid
visited Satu'i'day evening with Mr.
and Mrs. Don Bushell.
Overnight guest on Saturday
with Miss , Sandra Reid was Miss
Lisa Collins.
Week end guests with Mr. and
Mrs. Burton Collins were Mr. and
Mrs. Ed McGillivray and daughter
Kelly from Goderich.
The regular Women's Institute
meeting was held on March 5 at the
home of Mrs. Harvey Needham.
A number of people from this
area attended World Day of Prayer
services 'at various churches.
Visiting with Kr. and Mrs. Don
Robertson on Friday were Bob
Etnerson and Mrs. Marion Emer-
son.'
The Community Centre will be
providing lunch for . the farm
machinery sale for Bob Emerson,

Lucknow were Saturday callers on
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson:

the Science Building at Toronto,

tional day for pupils and adults.'
• On Sunday Mr. and Mrs.
`Wallace Conn had, long distance
calls from Mr. and Mrs. George
Conn •of Sherbrooke, Quebec,
inviting them to visit 'them _Easter
holidays and from Mr. and Mrs.
Mack Armstrong of Langenburg,
Sask. •
On Saturday Mrs. Lewis and
Michael of Wingham visited with
Mrs. Earl Caslick and on Sunday
Mr. and Mrs. Brian Caslick and
Scott of Kincardine visited with
her.
Huntley Dawson of 2nd conces-
sion visited on Tuesday with Mr.
and Mrs. Victor Emerson. Mr. and
MrS. Dawson had just returned
from a month's holiday in Florida.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Moore
accompanied son Richard Moore of
the Lucknow Pee Wee hockey team
to Cayuga by bus on Sunday. The
score was 2-1 in favor of Cayuga,
who return to Lucknow on Wednes-
day and the Lucknow team go back
to Cayuga on Saturday.
The members of Whitechurch
Women's Institute of the commun-
ity convey their sincere sympathy
to Mrs. Bill Arnold in the passing .
of her husband last week. Mrs.
Arnold is well known here having
attended, as a speaker. many of the
meetings.

Mr. and Mrs. George Fisher
spent the week end with ,Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Estey of Guelph and •Mr.
and Mrs. Carman Machan and
Ross of Waterloo.
Little Heather Beecroft of Wing-
ham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Ronald Beecroft,, is a patient in
Wingham Hospital. This commun-
ity wishes her a speedy recovery.
On Thursday evening the Luck-
now Pee Wee hockey team played
an exhibition game with Winghatn
team with a score 3-2 in favor of
Lucknow, On Saturday afternoon
the Lucknow Pee Wee team played
Cayuga at Lucknow with a score 4-3
in favor Of, Lucknow. The team are
now playing for O.M.H.A. Richard
Moore got a goal in this game.
Mr. and Mrs. John Currie on
Tuesday evening attended the Irish
Rovers Concert at Kitchener.
Mr. and Mrs, Earl Wilkens and
John Clipperton were in Toronto on
Wednesday, where they attended a
mechanics show.
On Friday Mrs. Bev Kay-went to
Toronto, where she joined' her
husband at the banquet for Knox
College graduates., They returned
home' on 'Saturday when they
visited on their .way home with his
mother Mrs. Kay a patient at
Guelph Hospital.
