I.T. held their meeting in the Pine River Church basement.. The meeting opened with the Hymn and purpose. There were 12 members and. one visitor present. Then, in the business section of the meeting, we decided we would go bowling and ask our fathers. If they are unable to attend, we will ask a friend. We will hold our next meeting March 10. Following the business, we worked on banners. 4 The meeting closed with Taps. Despite having to postpone the meeting from Wednesday due to stormy weather, close to 350 ladies attended the all-day meeting. Theme for the meeting was the Celebration' of. the 50th Anniver- sary of the United Church - the Past Speaks, the Present Responds, the Future' 13eckons. . The meeting opened with 'a 'hymn sing led by a choir picked from all the U.C.W.'s. Mrs. Doug Raynard represented Trinity, Ashfield. World Day of Prayer Service in the Lucknow United Church on Mon-. day evening. Mrs. Gordon Cayley welcorned the visitors and intro- duced the service "Become Per- fectly One". The service was led by Glenda Jamieson. Mary Ellen Havens accompanied with music on the organ and piano, Laurie Clarke and Mary Lynn Cayley played guitars:. The -scripture readers were Lynn Elphick, Pamela McIntosh, Brenda Arnold and Susan Thompson. Kathryn McKim, and Barbara Henderson received the offering. Miss Elizabeth Ritchie's group participated in a skit on the service theme. The C.G.I.T. girls have made a ' banner to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the United. Church. It uses the symbolism of the United Church and, was designed by teenager, Shirley Flumerfelt of Mount Royal United Church, Montreal. It is part of this year's Mission Study. A simulation game called "Build the Nations" was enjoyed by all. The senior girls were nation leaders and each nation had to accomplish five tasks and then build itself. The game and discussion which followed helped everyone to realize' how citizens must work together in their own country and how nations must co-operate in the world. They discussed ways in which they could share justice,. dignity and hope in our broken world. Refreshments were served and o everyone joined in Taps. U.C.W. Budget Set.M. $3,385 Luck,now United Church Women held its first meeting of 1.975 in the Church Parlour on Tuesday even- ing, February 18th. with Mrs. Jane Treleaven presiding. The president opened the meet- ing with a reading, prayer and hymn. The-- Community 'Friendship Committee presented the program for the evening' with Mrs. Jessie Alton in chargit. A Intinorous skit entitled "Love or Duty in Visiting" compared an , exaggerated view with' the right and, wrong way to visit the sick. Those taking part in the sick room scene included Mrs. Margaret Thompson as the patient, Mrs. Ann Dexter, the nurse, Mrs. , Clara Raynard, Mrs. Tillie Wilson and Mrs. Jessie Alton as the visitors.. A musical number "Laughing Water" by Mrs. Isabel Ritchie and readings "You Can Count That Day" and "The Solitary Life of Jesus" by' Mrs. Catherine Mac- Donald closed, this, part of the, program., Mrs. Jane Treleaven conducted the business part of the meeting. the Finance Chairman, Mrs.. Hilda Ackert presented the proposed budget 'for 1975 which totalled $3,385.00 for the approval of .the meeting. Two members, Mrs. Mildred Cameron and Mrs. Marilyn John- son were appointed' to the planning committee for the' local church celebration of the 50th anniversary of the' United Church in Canada. Reports of conveners and an- nouncements doted the business portion, of the meeting. WHITECHURP . Miss Mildred McClenaghan ar- rived home from Florida on Saturday. = Percy McClenaghan of Clinton spent Saturday with her attending to 'farm repairs. Curries School progressive Ashfield Ashfield Women's Missionary Society ladies gathered at the home of Mrs. Bill Ross, Lucknow, for their February meeting. Mrs. Warren Wylds opened the meeting with a poem "Little Things" followed 'by prayer. HyMn 494 'was sung followed by repeatidg the W.M.S. purpose. Mrs.. Stuart MacLennan gave, scripture taken from Matthew 20: 1-16, "Workers in the 'Vineyard". Worksheets were passed among the ladies and a discussion period on this scripture lesson took place. Offertory prayer was given by Mrs. Stuart MacLennan. Hymn 582 was sung followed by roll call "an interesting item from Glad Tidings" with 11 members present :and 2 visitors. ,Mrs. Warren Wylds read inter- esting items on mission study from India. Mrs. Ewan MacLean gave articles from Glad Tidings' and mentioned Miss Brown a mission- ary born-in Ottawa, who in 1951 went to India and ,started Mobile Medical Unit, also Pauline Brown of Goderich ,who went to India in 1952. . Business was turned over to Mrs. Join West, who reported on the Presbyterial, held in Wingham in January. A thank-you note was received from Miss Sadie John- ston. On Thursday, March 6th at 8 p.m. the World Day of Prayer service is being held in the church by the W.M.S. and Explorers. Everyone is Welcome. Prayer followed. Hymn 607 and grace were sung followed by lunch and social time. euchre club postpened their Friday night meeting of February 28. We are pleased to report that Mrs. Wm. Orr of Langside is. holding her , own at Wingham Hospital.. Many from here were. at St. Andrew's Church, ,Wingham, to view the banners on display February 25 and 27 and March 1 and 2. These banners were -the result of a competition based on the Centennial theme, There were 300 entered in the competitiest. Whitechurch-Langside congreg- ations are planning to celebrate. /he Centennial with a special meeting March 23 at Langside Church. Mtt, Galway introduced • the "Brides',':' who marched up the aisle in formal gowns, representing the different particiPants in these unions. Mrs. Bert Alton, Lucknow; a, former Presbyterial President for Huron West, represented the Presbyterian Church in, the Union of the Methodist, Congregational and. Presbyterian churches 'in 1925. . Several anecdotes of amusing,, events, which have happened over the years, were told. The ladies of 'Trinity Church, Ashfield, acted out, in pantomine, the incident of the "Forgotten Element". Taking part were: Mrs. Blake Alton, Mrs. Warren Zinn, Mrs. Allan Ritchie, Mrs. Alex Hackett, Mrs. David A. Hackett. In another union in 1962, the W.M.S. and the W.A. joined to form the U.C.W, 'Mrs. 'Graham McNee, Dungannon, represented the W.A. Mrs. McNee is the. " present Presbyterial President of Huron West. 'Mrs. Milian Moore, White- church, gave the Literature Report for Huron. Each Of the 74 U.C.W.'s in Huron-Perth was asked to make a banner and a poster for the day, and many, original ideas were displayed during the "Great Par: ade".. Trinity Ashfield's banner was made by Mrs. Wm. F. -Andrew and their poster by Mrs'. Wm. E. Andrew. Speaker in the afternoon was . Mrs. Margaret Ward, President of London conference,' U.C.W. She , spoke high!' of the day's program, saying that of the seven annuals she has attended, Huron-Perth's was the most impressive. Mr's.
