Brownies Mark
"Thinking Day!'
On Tuesday, February 18th the
Brownies held their Thinking Day
meeting. Opening games were
"It" and "Bumblebus and Toad-
stools".
Shirley Loree was Fairy Queen
and she placed the Toadstool' for
Brownie Ring. The Brownies
hopped their Brownie Gold and
Brown Owl did inspection, followed
by the Brownie' Prayer.
At Pow Wow Snowy Owl read an
article about our founder Lord
Baden Powell. A short dNcussion
was held on why we have Thinking
Day 'and when Brownies were
formed. The Brownies were told
about the churCh service to be held
on Sunday, February 23rd at
Lucknow United Church. , Brown
Owl showed the, Pack the Beaver
- Division Crest. These are for sale
to any of the Brownies who are
interested,
Each Six then told about
different countries, the Elves told
about Switzerland. Judy Hunter
showed a doll dressed in a national
costume. Tracey McDonagh had a
picture of the Brownies and Janice
McInnes had picture of the flag.
The Gnomes chose Bermuda.
Anne Hamilton showed snap shots
,and took us on a trip around the
island to interesting places to visit.
Debra Huffman , told about the
countryside. Anne also had'
souvenirs from Bermuda.
The Sprites told about England.
Shirley Loree had a picture of the
Brownies and Luanne MacLeod
told about the Brownies. Helen
Maclntyre had a picture of the flag.
A candle lighting ceremony was
held when Packie helped Shirley
Loree, Lori Stanley, Anne Hamilton
and Judy Hunter each light a
candle to 'remember Brownies in
each corner of the world. Tawny
Owl lit a candle to remember Lord
and Lady Baden Powell's birthdays
on February 22nd. The Brownies
then put their pennies in' the
treasure chest' with wings, as, this
money goes to help Brownies
around the world: Snowy Owl then
passed the birthday cake.
The meeting closed with Taps,

of private aircraft were concerned,
a•good deal of success, I feel, was
accomplished in the matter of boats
and motors so that a large number
of them now be exempt from
the proposed tax.
Of grave concern to me as your
representative in the 30th Parlia-
ment is the current situation with
regard to capital punishment and
the increpse in the crime rate
across Cdnada, and in particular
the" larger centres of population.
We in. Western Ontario and in the
Riding of Bruce can certainly count
ourselves fortunate in the relatively
low incident of major crime that is
witnessed throughout the wider
area. I believe that this is because
of the excellent and efficient job
that is being done 'by Members of
our law enforcement agencies
ranging from the smallest municip-
al force of one or two men through
to the ' larger city forces and
detachments of Ontario Provincial
POlice and federal R.C.M.P. offic-
ers. Added to this is the efficiency •
of both federal and • provincial
,people in dealing as promptly and
as fairly as possible with court
cases that are brought before them.
However, it is only through
concerted efforts by the people of

the Riding and their elected
representatives that members of
our, law enforcement agencies and
our Courts can continue this fine
work on our behalf. With -this in
mind I would ask you, the citizens
of the' Riding Of Bruce,' to let me
know your feelings with regard to
the increase in crime throughout
Canada, and what you feel can be
done to counteract this increase,',
and provide proper, protection for
every citizen of' this countrY,. no
matter who ,he or she may be.
In the weeks conning: up, a
number of important bills will
reach committee stage in the
Agriculture , Committee of which I
am a Member. To my way of
thinking one of the most important
to be discussed will be new
legislation regarding the Farm
Credit Corporation, which will
allow young people to bOrrow
substantial amounts of money at
reasonable rates of interest, with
which to establish a presence in the
field , of ,agriculture. I hope to have
more information on that in my
next report .to you..
I might also mention that the
`Agriculture Committee held , on
Tuesday completed its discussion
of Bill C-19, the Two Price Wheat
Act and has reported on that. Bill to
the House, with one minor amend-
ment that will ensure a review on a
yearly basis of all factors in the cost
of production of wheat for human
consumption so that adjustments
can be made in payments to the
producers of wheat that will keep
them in line with the increasing
costs they face in their operation.•
The important Farm *abilizatiOn
Bill and the Grain Stabilization Bill
are also slated for early considera-
tion by the .Committee.
May Ponce again say how much I
appreciate hearing from you re-
garding matters of concern con-
cerning
n not only the Riding itself,
but Canada as a whole. I in turn
will certainly try my best to keep
you'informed of, what is happening
here in' Ottawa each month in my
reports through Hill Talk.

concerns - from im igration to
farm policy, to sports national
defence, external policy and mone-
tary and fiscal policy. And from
these frank and honest discussions
I am sure the people of the Riding,
of Bruce, and the peopleof Canada
will soon see concrete proposals
and legislation appear before Parl-
iament 'to take dead aim on 'the
many and important problems we
face, as a nation' and as individuals.
More recently,' discussion and
debate were held in the House
concerning the Excise Tax
presented in donnection with 'the
most recent budget. At that time, I
spoke briefly on the section of the
tax that dealt•with the imposition of
a 12 per cent tax on air craft.
I would also like to report that
several times during both 'Federal
and Provincial meetings,/, I, on your
behalf, expressed deep concern
with the tax proposed on boats and
motors, particularly as it' pertains
to the tourist industry in the Riding
of Bruce, and I am pleased to
report that while the pleas put forth
by myself and numerous other
members of both the Government
and the Opposition side were
unsuccessful, as far as• the owners
