Bruce Trustees
Increase Monthly
Salary To $250
Bruce County Board of Educa-
tion' trustees voted themselves
monthly' raises of $100 .Tuesday.
The raise brings trustee pay to
$250 while the chairman of the
board will receive $375.
Trustee Alan Whicher of Wiar-
ton said the raises are ,the first the
trustees have had since the prov-
ince reorganized boards of edpca-
tion along county boundaries in
1969.
He said the raise was modest
considering the provincial govern-
ment's recently announced pay
ceilings for trustees which could
bring Bruce trustees a maximum of
$400 monthly.
"We have no intention of asking
for the maximum figure this time
around, "'he said, adding, "none of
us is here for the money."
In addition, trustees voted them-
selves an increase in their mileage
allowances from 10 cents to . 15
cents a mile. .
Trustee Lloyd Ackert of Holyrood
questioned the need for the raises.
"We're going to' have a public
relations problem if we get this
large a raise in one swoop." he
Said, suggesting an annual review
and possible smaller increase in
salary would be preferable.
"When the entire economy is in
such bad shape," Mr. Ackert said,
"I feel we should , be taking a
smaller percentage increase."
In other. business trustees voted
to support a recommendation from
the. Bruce Peninsula District School
at Lion's Head that Maitland
Warder of Lion's Head be 'recom-
mended for the Lamp of Learning
award for an outstanding contribu-
tion to edueation in' the county.
Mr. Warder, a former member of
the .Bruce Board, has 'served
various Boards of Education in the
county for about 20 years.
