— There is no need for any customer ever to pay Directory Assistance charges.
— When a Customer requests numbers that are listed in his or her telephone directory, a charge of 25c
will •apply. . '
-- Persons whose physical handiCap prevents use of a directory. and those 65 years and over may apply
for EXEMPTION FROM THE CHARGE. Special Exemption 'Forms are available at the Telephone
Business Office, Ripley
There will be NO CHARGE for:
— numbarenot in your directory
— calls placed from pay phones
— calls from hospital,' hotel or motel room's'`
— .emergency calls
INTRODUCTION OF DIRECTORY ASSISTANCE CHARGING WILL:
— Cut down the increasingly high volume of unnecessary calls. Directory Assistance operators in Ontario
and Quebec handled more than 220 million calls in 1973, more than 70%of them were for numbers
already listed in the book.
- Provide a quality Directory ASsistance service for those customers who need it,for numbers not listed
or who prefer directory assistance service to looking up numbers in the directory.
Relate charges more directly to use. With directory assistance charging, those whO make unnecessary
use of the service (about 50%of the calls are placed by 10% of our customers), will bear the cost of
supplying this personalized, ervice,
HOW TO MAKE BETTER USE OF YOUR TELEPHONE DIRECTORY:
— Key names are placed at the top corner of each page.
— All listings are in alphabetical order.
— Check' otternative spellings many surnames with similar sounds have different spellings,
— Alt business listings in the white pages are interfiled in alphabetical Sequence with residence listings.
- Numbers used as names ate listed as if the numbers were spelled out.
— When, letters ore used as names, the listing 'is placed at the beginning of the section for the particular
letter.
— Keep emergency and frequently called numbers up.to-datz. in the'spcice provided in the introductory
pages of the telephone directOry.

Clarence Ritchie and Stephen of
2nd concession Kinloss were visit-
ors with her mother MrS. Gershom
Johnston of Wingham. Stephen
remained over night. Visitors on
Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Stewart
Smith, Mr. and Mrs: John Liddel
and Davey all Of Kitchener, Mr.
and.Mrs. Charles Wood and Sylvia
of Egmondville.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Toth, Robbie

Visitors with her parents Mr. and

the week end at their home with
their parents Mr. and Mrs. Peter
de Boer.

euchre club beld their° party in the
Belgrave Assembly Hall Room on
Friday evening with 7 tables in

MRS. FRANK McCHARLES
Mrs. Frank (Daisy) McCharles
passed away on Wednesday, Janu-
ary 29th at Huronview,. Clinton, in
her 89th year..
Mrs. McCharles, the former
Daisy Mae Barkewll, was born in
Kinloss ToWnship March ,29, 1886,-`
eldest daughter of the late Mr. and•
Mrs. Jas. BarkwelL who with their'
family later moved to Ashfield
Township to the farm now owned
by Mr. and Mrs. Teddy Van der.
Velde, then to the Ewan MacLean
farm, and later again to the farm
next to where she spent her
married life.
She, was married in December
1910 to the late Frank Jas.'
McCharles, who *deceased her.
in September .1927. Mrs. McChar-
les and her son Oliver carried on
the farming until Oliver married. in
1934 but continued to live with Mr.
and Mrs. Oliver McCharles and
their family for 33 years. •
After suffering two broken hips
and . several illnesses, it became
necessary for her to resort to a
wheelchair and finally in October
1967 to enter Iluronview as a
resident, where she lived a bright,
' busy and enjoyable' seven and a
half years.
Mrs. McCharles, a member of
St. Andrews Church, Ripley, at the
time of her going to Clinton, had
'previously been a member of Olivet
Church where she sang for many
years in the Ch.urch choir,' took her
part in all Church organizations
and taught Sunday School. She
was a charter member of Para-
mount W.I. and U.F.W.O.
She saw her grandchildren grow
up, and leave for their chosen•
professions and possibly was one of
a very few who remained in her

Mr. and Mrs. George •Burt of
Toronto spent the week/end with
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Burt, Terry and
own ,home as a member of ,the
family, and three generations
living as one, for so long.
She will be missed by all ,who
knew her, as a resident of
Huronview and especially 'by her
family, Oliver and Marion M :Char-
les and their sons Allan, Donald
and John and their families.
Funeral services were conducted
by Rev. Cecil Carnochan at the
MacLennan McCreath funeral

which she was held in her .89 years

Hugh were dinner guests with Mr.

the occasion of'. Malcolm Lane's
birthday.
Mrs'. Agnes Hodgins entertained
friends at her home at'a quilting on
Monday,
Mr. and Mrs. John L. Currie and
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Walker were
the' sponsors,. Those receiving
prizes were George Grigg high
man; Kenneth Currie low man;
high lady, Mrs; Jim „ Currie; low
lady, Mrs. Roy Dawson. Mrs. -Ed
Smyth won the lucky draw for the
ladies and Lawrencelaylor won for
the gents. Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Arbuckle and Mrs. Congram will
sponsor the next party.
On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Elliott, Ruth,' Barry, David and
Karen were dinner guests with his
mother Mrs.' Elliott of Wingham.
Joyce Tiffin of Toronto and Barry
Tiffin of Kitchener spent. the week
end with .their parents Mr. and
Mrs.. Dan Tiffin. •
Saturday evening visitors with
Mr. and Mrs. Ivah Laidlaw and
family were Mr. and 'Mrs. Fred
Moore, Blaine, Mark, April and
Ctirtis and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence.

Mr. and :Mrs. Bill Rintoul spent
Wednesday to Friday in Toronto
with Mr. anal. Mrs. Gordon Camp-
bell and called.on his brother John
Rintoul in the hospital. On the way
home they visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Gutoskie and Michelle
at Kitchener.
