Judges were Duncan MacKay, Mrs:. George Kennedy and Rev. Glenn Noble. In the Junior Division, grades. 4, 5 , 6, Marilynne Maclntyre placed first, speaking on 'Stanley Cup. Second was .Murray Gilchrist, 'with the topic Movies and third standing was ' won by Richard Moore, speaking 'on Streaking. In the Senior Class, grades 7 and 8, Suzanne Corrin placed first with the topic, Teachers. Alice Van der Klippe, speaking 6n Holland, was second and third place went to Kathryn McKim speaking on, My Grandmother. The top two in each class will compete with area winners this Friday at the Legion Hall. • Cattle Die From Rabid Fox LANGSIDE NEWS A rabid fox, which, was shot in the 'stable on 'Bob Orr's farm, has resulted in the death of four of his cattle. A fox, thought (to be rabid,, was also shot on Jim Young's' farm last week. Other foxes have been* reported in the area. The fox was shot in the Orr barn on Christmas night. The barn contained 14 cows: 14 calves and several heifers. Since that time two cows, one, calf and one heifer have come down with rabies and have been destroy- ed. Mary MacKinnon Named Queen At F. E. Madill Mary MacKinnon, 18-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fraser MacKinnon of the 4th concession of Kinloss Township, has been named School Queen at the F. E. Madill • Secondary School in Wingham. • Mary is a grade '13 student and hopes to attend Sir Wilfred Laurier University and pursue a teaching career. . Fellow students front grades 12 and 13 nominated , students for the School Queen Award and also School Leader Award• from among the male students at the school. Steve. Caslick, son of Mr., and Mrs. Wilford Caslick of Wingham, was named School Leader. Nominations are based on the contributions made to the school by each student and popularity among their fellow students. All students in grades 12 and 13 and the graduating class in grade 10 were eligible to - vote on those nominated. Mary and Steve gained the most votes in the balloting. Died In Hospital David G. Scott of Lucknow passed away in Wingham and District Hospital on Tuesday, Feb- ruary 4th: He was 87. This is the only indoor traetor, pull in Canada. On ,. Tuesday and Wednesday night, January 28 and 29, the men participated in the National TraCtor Pullers Association events which included entries from both Canada and United States. They finished 14th in the 9000 pull and 10th in the . 7000 class. On Thursday and Friday, in the .
