held a card party on Thhrsday
evening. Eight tables were, in play.
Those winning prizes were: high
lady, May Boyle; high gent, Jack
Ackert; lucky prize, Mrs,. Frank
Maulden. •

death of Miss Gertrude Appleyard
R.N. of Meaford; a sister of the Rt.
Rev. H. F. Appleyard. The funeral
was held in London on Wednesday.

The Presbyterian Women's Mis-
sionary Society met, on Tuesday at
the home of Mrs. Stewart MacDon-
. ald with the new president, Mrs.
Ruth. Wilson presiding. Following
the opening exercises, the minutes
and 'Itreasurer's report, roll . call,
_paying of fees and the offering
were held. Programs for 1975 were
drafted. The program was for the
New Year' with the following
readings; A Better World by Mrs.

Bruce School Bus
Costs Up $65,000
It will cost the Bruce County
Board of Education $65;000 more
this year 'to transpOrt its 8,000
pupils to schools.
New rates 'for both large and
small buses were approved by the
board last week.
The _daily rate for large buses,
which carry fronre 79 to 84 pupils,
will be $39.38 and 'smaller ones
carrying 11 to' 19 pupils, $20, an
increase in both cases of $2. The
daily mileage rate over 30 miles
will be increased to 29 cents from

Mrs. Arnold Vokes; -"a former
Dungannon • resident, passed away
on December 29th following a short
Illness. '
A memorial service was held at
the 'Chinese Gospel , Church, Tor-
Dr. and Mrs. Vokes were former .
Missionaries in China. He later
practised medicine in Blyth and.
Dungannon moving to Toronto
some 'three years ago. Di. Vokes
passed away last summer. •
Mrs. Vokes is survived by a son
'Robert, a daughter Joan and two
grandchildren, Deborrah and Neil,
all of Deep River, Ontario.

The board was told that the 200
leased buses travel about 12,000
miles each school day.
' The increases are retroactive to
September, 1974, but will be
.covered by a 90-per-cent provincial
government grant.
In other business, a committee
was appointed to make -recom-
mendations on honorariums paid to
trustees.
They are receiving $150 a month
plus 10 cents a mile,. but under new
legislation, they are permitted as
much as $400 a month with the
chairman to receive in addition half
again the amount paid trustees.
The $400 rate is permitted only if'
the population of the Scheel area
exceeds 10,000. Bruce County's
population September 30 was
11;242. ,
Salaries for non-teaching person-
nel who do not belong to the
Canadian Union of Public Employ-
ees (CUPE) also were, increased.
Effective January 1, the chief
custodian at the Walkerton . District
High School will receive $10,400, a
$1,000 increase, and the senior

$9,400. •
The cafeteria manager will rec-
eive $3.62 an hour, up from $3.30,
while other .' cafeteria employees
will get, $3.37, an' increase of 32
cents.
The board also upheld the
expidsion -of three pupils for 10
weeks from Kincardine district
high school. They were suspended
because of fights, threats, improp-
er language and damage during a
December 19 school dance. Three
mothers and one father were
present at the board hearing.
Members of the finance commit-
tee are Thomas Lambert-of Kincar-
dine, Cameron McAuley of Ripley
and, Alan Whicher of Wiarton.

had dinner on Saturday at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilkins
and family and Barb Eagles
returned. home with her mother.

family visited Gateway Haven in
Wiarton with his father, Earl Swan
and his uncles Jack and Sam Swan,
Saturday of last week.
Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter and
family visited at the , home of his
sister, Mr. and Mrs. Mac Scott and
his mother, Mrs. Jake Hunter 'at
Belgrave, Sunday afternoon.
John Ritchie and Kenny visited
Sunday afternoon at the home of
Mr.. and Mrs. Roy Pennington and
family. Penningtons visited' the
last two weeks with her brother,
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Alton and
Casey of Yellowknife and with the
Hawkwood's in Alberta.
Mrs. Charles Wilkin's mother,
Mrs. William Irwin and Lloyd of
Kinloss, her aunt, Mr. and. Mrs.
Wesley Alton of London 'spent 3
weeks in Florida, returned home
and spend Monday of this week it
the home of .her daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Wilkins and family.

It is reported that Kenny Dore,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Dore
Jr. of Teeswater, underwent• eye
surgery in London's Victoria Hos-
pital on Friday, January 24. Kenny
sustained the injury last fall when a
B-B gun accidentally discharged
and the pellet struck him in the
eye.
