Closer' examination showed that

just finished last week adjusting

A fatal two car crash was
reported on Friday evening occur-
ring at the intersection of conces-
sion 2 and Highway 21 in Huron
Township. This corner iS one block
north of Amberley and 'for some
'reason is the most dangerousin the
district as 'over the past twenty
years there hag been a number of
people • killed here. One car was
travelling on the second concession
and the other along the Bluewater
Highway. Delbert Glover, resident
of Amberley, lost his life as a result
of the Friday evening crash. He
was a' brother-in-law of Tom
Mitchell of the 2nd of Huron and
resided in the former Ross Shielis
house at Amberley.
Injured 'in the accident were
'Kenneth Robinson, Paisley, a
passenger in the Glover car and
Angus McArthur, 61, R. 5 Kincard-
ine, driver of the other vehicle.
This is the fifth, fatality in the
memory 'of the writer to occur at or
near this intersection in recent
years; Ron Brown and a Bell child
lost their lives as did Jim MacDon-
ald and a man driving .a car which
collided with a Co-op oil truck.

In last week's,edition of the farm
paper "Farm and Country!' there
was an article entitled "Briiee
Plans Action for Farm! Assistance".
It was found on page 20 in the
paper, along with a picture in the
dairy barn. ,The article states that
the Bruce Holstein Association, the
Federation of Agriculture and the
Agricultural Rural Development
Agency are working with the
Canada Manpower Office in Walk-:
erton to provide a relief fartn
workers service. The article states
"The idea was sparked by Ripley
Dairy farmer Jim Needham. Last
fall he wanted to spend more than
just a day at the Royal Winter Fair
with his wife. They found a recent
immigrant from Aberdeen, Norm-'•
an Anderson, who was an exper-
ienced dairyman, who looked' after '
their herd for a full week." Jim
says "I found the place and stock in
better shape than when I left."
Also listed in the supplement to the
above,rnentioned magazine was J.
S. Robb of R. R. 1 Ripley - on the
second concession west. He is one
of a number of representatives of a
corn company.
Ripley beekeeper Morrison' Mac-
Kenzie and ' his wife Mary of
Inverhuron, along with friends Mr.
and Mrs. 0. Trowse of Tiverton
area, motored recently to Florida ,
where they will spend the next
month on the 'Gulf side of the
Sunshine State.
Last Sunday afternoon the, fire
alarm sounded in Ripley about
two-thirty. Soon the fire truck was
on its way rounding the bank
corner and down the eighth conces-
sion. The fire was reported to be in
the Popular Beach area where a .
snowmobile burned.

On Sunday evening, two C.N.R.
repair trucks were parked on the
roadside here . while the men
replaced the broken base of the
light signals standard. On the job
was Fern Beaulieu of Mildmay who
works from,Walkerton and Pete J..
McSherry of Palmerston. .For these
men it was their second job late on
this past Sunday. Before coming to
Ripley they replaced a signal
standard in . Drayton which 'hid
been smashed by a car. In Ripley
they worked by the lights of their
trucks and in the cold wintry
weather - not exactly pleasant
conditions.. • Looking after "ump-
teen" miles of track here now are
section men Alf Ritchie of Lucknow
and Tom Gardner of Blyth.
Checking with Bruce County High-
ways foram Max Bushell of
Lucknow early. Monday morning,
we -learn the Ripley standard was
accidentally caught by a snow plow
just before noon on Sunday.
