FINLAYSON Chester Russell Finlayson pas- Sed away suddenly at his'residence in Cottam on January 16, 1975 in his 77th year. He was born in Huron Township on August 17, 1898, son of the late Kenneth Finlayson and Lucy Harris. Mr. Finlayson is survived by two brothers Orville of Huron Township and Warner of Orlando, Florida. Funeral services were held from McLennan and McCreath Funeral Home in Ripley on January 19, with Rev. Cecil Carnochan officiating. The pallbearers were Austin Martin, Harry Scott, Ardill Mason, John D. Thompson, Edgar Watson and John A. McKay. Burial was in Ripley cemetery.. Ripley friends are glad' to hear this and wish her confirmed improve- ment and happiness in Brucelea Haven. A fatal two car crash was reported on Friday evening occur- ring at the intersection of conces- sion 2 and Highway 21 in Huron Township. One car was travelling on the second concession and the other along the Bluewater Highway. Delbert Glover, resident of Amberley, lost his life as a result of the Friday evening crash. He was a' brother-in-law of Tom Mitchell of the 2nd of Huron and resided in the former Ross Shielis house at Amberley. Injured 'in the accident were 'Kenneth Robinson, Paisley, a passenger in the Glover car and Angus McArthur, 61, R. 5 Kincard- ine, driver of the other vehicle. This is the fifth, fatality in the memory 'of the writer to occur at or near this intersection in recent years; Ron Brown and a Bell child lost their lives as did Jim MacDon- ald and a man driving .a car which collided with a Co-op oil truck. * * * * *• * In last week's,edition of the farm paper "Farm and Country!' there was an article entitled "Briiee Plans Action for Farm! Assistance". It was found on page 20 in the paper, along with a picture in the dairy barn. ,The article states that the Bruce Holstein Association, the Federation of Agriculture and the Agricultural Rural Development Agency are working with the Canada Manpower Office in Walk-: erton to provide a relief fartn workers service. The article states "The idea was sparked by Ripley Dairy farmer Jim Needham. Last fall he wanted to spend more than just a day at the Royal Winter Fair with his wife. They found a recent immigrant from Aberdeen, Norm-'• an Anderson, who was an exper- ienced dairyman, who looked' after ' their herd for a full week." Jim says "I found the place and stock in better shape than when I left." Also listed in the supplement to the above,rnentioned magazine was J. S. Robb of R. R. 1 Ripley - on the second concession west. He is one of a number of representatives of a corn company. Ripley beekeeper Morrison' Mac- Kenzie and ' his wife Mary of Inverhuron, along with friends Mr. and Mrs. 0. Trowse of Tiverton area, motored recently to Florida , where they will spend the next month on the 'Gulf side of the Sunshine State. Last Sunday afternoon the, fire alarm sounded in Ripley about two-thirty. Soon the fire truck was on its way rounding the bank corner and down the eighth conces- sion. The fire was reported to be in the Popular Beach area where a . snowmobile burned. * * * ,* * * On Sunday evening, two C.N.R. repair trucks were parked on the roadside here . while the men replaced the broken base of the light signals standard. On the job was Fern Beaulieu of Mildmay who works from,Walkerton and Pete J.. McSherry of Palmerston. .For these men it was their second job late on this past Sunday. Before coming to Ripley they replaced a signal standard in . Drayton which 'hid been smashed by a car. In Ripley they worked by the lights of their trucks and in the cold wintry weather - not exactly pleasant conditions.. • Looking after "ump- teen" miles of track here now are section men Alf Ritchie of Lucknow and Tom Gardner of Blyth.
