Kinsmen Raise $350 For Community
Work In Game With Provincial Police

The Village. of Lucknow has.
. received a provincial grant of $3000
to assist in creating an official plan
for land use in the, community.
Community planning study
grants totalling $43,862 have been
allocated to a further 13 Ontario
municipalities, Housing Minister
Donald R. Irvine has announced.
1. The grants are designed to assist
municpalities in preparing or
bringing official plans and zoning
bylaws up to an acceptable level.
The funds can also be used to,
prepare zoning bylaws to replace
minister's zoning orders and to
finance planning programs for
unorganized municipalities.
The allocation-of these grants 'is
part of the overall Ministry of
Housing objective of assisting
municipalities in the preparation of
sound planning programs.
The grants are to be disbursed in
the amount of 50 per cent at once
and the remainder upon satisfact-
ory completion of the study. Mist
of the recipient municipalities' and
their allocation is listed.
Township of Amabel, $5,000;
Township of Arthur, 850; Town of
Cache Bay, 2,750; Town of Listow-
el, 2,391.50; Village of Lucknow,
3,000; Village of Millbrook, 1,125;
Township of Murray, 5,000; Town-
ship of North Dumfries, 5,000;
Town of Petrolia, 5,000; Town of
Prescott, 3,925; Township of
Springer, 3,500; Town of Strathroy,
5,000; West Nipissing Planning

Appointments At Ashfield
Township Council Meeting
The inaugural meeting. of Ash-
field Township Council was held on
January 13th. All members were
present and subscribed to their
Declaration of Office. Reeve is
Warren Zinn, DeputY Reeve Finlay-
MacDonald and Councillors Grant
Parrish, John, Austin and Allan
Gibson.
By-law 14, 1975. appointing the
officers and setting their salaries
was read a first time.
A resolution authorizing the
Reeve and clerk treasurer :to sign
official documents on behalf of the
township was passed.

For the watchers of • late televi-
sion news it was a pleasant surprise
to hear CKNX newscaster Brian
Allen, on Friday evening, report
the start of the dance-a-thon held at
the Ripley District Secondary
school. Also on this newscast was a
hort piece of movie film showing
caretaker Murdock MacDonald
walking up the centre of the high
school auditorium floor spreading
dancing wax. And then the couples
starting the long 'dance session
from 8 o'clock Friday evening 4o 8
o'clock Saturday evening. Fifty
started the marathon and fourteen
completed it 24 hours later. The
students raised $3,227. for the new
Ripley-Huron 'Recreation
Twelve years age the auditorium
used for the dance was in about the

New Fire Chief
Huron ,Township Council held
their inaugural meeting January
6th with all members present. Rev;
Carnahan of Ripley United Church
conducted a devotional service.
The two new-, council members,
Mike Snobelen and Gary MacDon-
ald were welcomed by the Reeve
Russell Stanley.
The retirement resignation of
Clerk Earl Tout was accepted. A
by-law was passed appointing
Marlene Coiling as clerk-treasurer.
A motion was passed increasing
farmers tile loans to $200.00 an
acre. '
A motion was passed that the
Township of Huron will not pay a
subsidy on suptemic treatment for
warbles for the year 1975.

Ladies Night
Lucknow Kinsmen held their,
regular meeting on Wednesday
night of last week and had their
wives as guests.
The meeting and dinner was held
at the Anglican Parish Hall and was
catered to by the' Anglican Church
Women.
Guest speaker for the evening
was lawyer Bob Campbell of
Wingham. Bob gave a most
interesting and informative talk on
wills, estates and other legal
matters.
Perfect attendance tabs were
presented to members with 100%
-attendance in the past ye,ar.

Died Suddenly
At Age 63
Mrs. Gerald Rathwell of Luck-
now died suddenly at her home on
Monday. The former Violet May
Pagan, she was 63 years of age.
Mrs. Rathvvell, local librarian,
did not appear for work at the
library on Monday afternoon.
Upon investigation she was found,
dead at her home.
The funeral service will be held
Thursday, January 30, at'2 p.m. at
the MacKenzie Memorial Chapel.
A 21-year-old Amberley 'man,
Delbert Leslie Glover, was killed
instantly-in a motor accident about
11.00 p.m. Friday at the junction of
Highway 21 and the 2nd concession
of Huron, about a mile north of
Amberley.
Mr. Glover and a passenger
Kenneth Robinson, 24, of R. R. S
Paisley were westbound on comes,
slop 2 when in collision with a
second ear driven by Angus
McArthur, 61, R. R. 5 Kincardine.
He was alone and was netthbound
that he will contest the governor-
ship of District A-9 at the conven-
tion at Niagara Falls on the 24th of
May week end.

Injured As Truck
Strikes Tree
Jerry Huizinga of Amberley was
injured in a single vehicle accident
about 3.30 a.m. Monday. He was
alone in his 1974 Dodge pickup
truck and was proceeding west on
Highway. 86 when the vehicle left
the road and struck a tree. The
truck `was a complete loss.
Jerry was removed to Wingham
Hospital with a broken jaw and ,
head injuries and was later trans-
ferred to University Hospital, Lon-
don.
Constable J. RI Renwick of
Kincardine Ontario Provincial Pol-
ice investigated the accident. It
occurred just west of the Huron-
Kinloss Boundary on' Highway 86.

Amberley Man Killed
on Highway 21. Mr. Robinson and
Mr. -McArthur were removed to
Kincardine Hospital and Kenneth
'Robinson was later transferred to
St. Joseph's Hospital, London.
The dead man was employed at
Canadian Tire Store in Kincardine
and was residing, at Amberley in
the Bob IvIacNay home with, his
wife Laurie and their year old
daughter Tina.
The accident was investigated by
Constable Harold Spruce of Kin-
ctirdine Ontario Provincial Police.
