week's paper of the apple pickers,
Bill Andrew of Ashfield and
Watson Webster. of Clinton advise
us that the unknown youth ,in the
picture was Bill Carter, now of
Blyth. Watson also advises u that
the young man identified as Ge
Twamley was actually Earl Gibson.

THAT
Mrs. William. (Debbie) Reed,
A ho resides just north of Lucknow,
underwent surgery a week ago
Monday in ,University Hospital
London when she had her hip and
clbow pinned. Mrs. Reed is doing
remarkably well. She is taking
therapy treatments and with the
help of nurses and a crutch has
been walking. She hoped to be
transferred to Wingham Hospital
today (Wednesday). Mrs.' Reed
was injured in a fall at her home.

Miss Margaret Van Der Klippe,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. K.: W.
Van Der Klippe of R. R. 5,
Lucknow, has passed her grade 2
theory with the Royal Conservatory
of Music. Toronto with first class
honours. She is a student of Mrs.
Thomas Pritchard. R. R. 2 Luck-
now.

JANUARY 1955
Following the trend of Banks in'
larger centres, the loCal branch of
the 'Bank of Montreal adopted a
five day week, with the Bank closing
all day on Saturdays. For the
convenience of customers the Bank
remained, open extra hours each
Friday afternoon from 4.30 to 6
p. Lucknow ratepayers elected a
reeve and four councillors from a
slate of nine candidates. It was the
first election, since 1949 and then, it
was for councillors only. Prior to
that there had hot been an election
since 1941. Alex W. Hamilton was
elected reeve and the four council-
lors elected were Alex MacLeod,
W. C. Attridge, Virden Mowbray,
and George Joynt.

South Kinloss Presbyterian
Church accepted a call to the"
Campbellville and Nassagaweya
charge in the Guelph Presbytery.

JANUARY 1935
January 10th issue of The
Sentinel was printed• on a new Lee •
Press which had been installed the'
previous week. It was replacing
:the old Campbell press, a one time
popular press, which had been. in

A storm the first week of January
that tied up traffic in this area,
resulted in a petition being circul-
ated, that was largely signed,
asking that Huron County keep the
road , between Lucknow and Wing-
ham open during the winter for
motor traffic. Bruce County was
undertaking the task of keeping
open the road north to Kinloss.
Snow on the village roads' And
main street was rolled rather as an
experiment which, if the results
proved satisfactory, it was thought
might do' away with snowplowing of
the streets. The rolling gave the
roads a hard packed surface that
was favoured by pedestrians in
preference to' snow-plowed streets.

An increase in motor license fees
Was put, through by the provincial
Cabinet. The new regulation
provided for the payment of • the
following fees according to the
horse-power of 'the car. 25 or less
$6.00; between 25 and 35 - $10.00;
between 35 and 50 - $20.00; over 50
- $25.00.

Wingham Hospital for over three,
weeks now and their son Ken of
Toronto is staying with Mrs.

London visited Mr. Johnston in the

Larry Pentland returned home on
Tuesday after a week in St.
'Joseph's Hospital, London, where
he underwent surgery.
