Hall's Red and White Food ,,MarkeLop erated, by: 1,1by_d 'Hap " Hall, has been sold to K. Mehan of Hamilton, the change to become effectiVe February 3rd. Mr. Mehan has been operating a variety store in, Hamilton and is also an employee 'of Steel Co. of Canada: The Hall family name has been associated with the food business in Lucknow for the past 36% years. The late John Hall, father of the present owner, came to Lucknow from Hillsburg, Ontario in June 'of 1938, purchasing the business of ,A Donald McCharles. Mr. Hall had also been in the grocery business prior to comin_g to Lucknow. The. present owner; Lloyd Hall, /commenced work in the business with his father 'in 1941 and on February 1, 1955, he took over the business himself. The sale to Mr. Mehan comes 20 years to the day from the time "Hap" purchased the business from his dad.' Russell's mother, has just returned from visiting with her daughter Mary and , son-in-law Ralph Haines and their family at Wainfleet, Ontario where she was when news was first received on TV of the disaster. She was, able to learn of Russell's safety by sending a cablegram. News is sketchy about Russell's involvement, but a phone call to his mother on New Year's Eve 'indicat- ed that he had been at home at the time the hurricane struck. The house collapsed around him and using a mattress as protection, he ' escaped with facial lacerations and shoulder bruises. Russell, in turn, assisted in rescue operations for some time after the disaster. ' He has been living in Australia for the past 1 1/2 years. Died In 56th Year The death of Leo Beauchamp occurred in Wingham and District Hospital dn Monday, January 20th in his 56th year:- — - The funeral service was held at MacKenzie Memorial Chapel; Lucknow on Tuesday, January 21st. Temporary entombment was at' South Kinloss Mausoleum. Vernon Hunter of Lucknow, 2nd vice president; Glen Walden of Lucknow, returned as president; Russel Irvin of the Brookside area in Ashfield, returned as 1st vice president. Summer Cottage Is Destroyed By Fire At Huron Sands A summer cottage at iHuron Sands' beach," south of Kintail, was completely destroyed by fire on Wednesday Of last week. Lucknow Fire Department re- sponded to •thecall about 5.30 p:m. Wednesday but the cbttage, and all contents, were completely destroy-, ed by the time- firemen arrived. The property is owned by Mrs. ,Mildred Beese of Waterloo. It had not been in use since Christmas time. The fire was spotted by a beach snowmobile patrol member who notified police, who in turn notified Lucknow Fire Department. Firemen were called out again about 7.45 p.m. when the fire broke out again and concern was felt for nearby property. Reeve George W. By way of commemorating the occasion, the United Church Wom- en of Trinity United Church, Ashfield, are compiling 'a history of the Ashfield Circuit when it was Zion, Fiacketts and Blakes, • and including a history of Hope church • and cemetery. In this history_ will go stories of all the farms in-the area that have ever been in these church conimun, hies, dating back to the crown, alsO stories of the churches,' schools, industries and general community history. . Trinity ladies are asking anyone, who at any time lived in these communities and has information or pictures to loan, to contact any member of the committee.. They plan to have the book published and on Sale by Craft Festival time and' need this infor- mation' as soon as' possible. Salary increases were made to the village works department: foreman 'Cliff Crawford from $4 to on Saturday. 'George Kennedy of Lucknow, Thornton Eedy Of Dungannon and Jim Coultes of •Belgrave were honoured with framed certificates which read, in part, "in bestowing this:. honour, the members and officers recognize the great contri- bution you have made , toward the advancement of the Hereford Breed and the active interest you have taken in association affairs". Thornton was president in 1970, Jim in 1960 and George in 1952. George Kennedy is the olde(st past president still actively involved in the breeding of Hereford cattle. Seventeen past presidents 'were in attendance to receive this award. Teeswater Reeve Named Warden Of Bruce County. Albert James VVorrall, .61-year- old . Reeve of Teeswater, , was elected Warden of Bruce County by acclamation.at the inaugural meet- ing of Bruce County Council held Monday evening at Walkerton District Secondary School. Mr. Worrall was nominated by Alex Lamont, Reeve of Saugeen Township and Floyd Wieck, Reeve of Kincardine and was unopposed for the post. Five other men were nominated, all 'declining in favour of Mr. Worrall who was acclaimed to the position.
