The bits St month began on yridaS,
evening November 29 when (- the
congregation held itsTatinual mein-
bership meeting. Rev; Van Stemp-
voort opened, the •meeting with '
seripture'reading and prayer, after'
which the clerk Harty Burgsrna.
presented a, short 'Slide program,
Chnrch In Action"..', The
presentation depicted What hap-
pened -to the money which is paid
for DenOtnittational Quotas (Oblig-
ations).
The Financial Stateinent of the
1973-1974 year ,was read by the
treasurer A. Kersten; receipts were
$49,398.00, disbUrsementS
$48,035.00. Of 'this money
$9,328.00 was collected for Denom-
inational Quotas, 55,046.00 for
other, above quota, Denomination
causes and $640.00 for Classis
Huron. Classis Huron supports a
CampuS ministry at the University
of Waterloo, and of Guelph, and has
started a special Evangelism proj-
ect at Vanastra. Mr. Kersten also
presented the proposed budget for
the new fiscal year, this was
accepted without any dissenting
vote. Other items decided upon
were the renovation of the balcony,
which would provide an additional
63 seats; new pew Bibles will be
purchased. and: the church will
continue to subscribe for. every
;/ family in the congregation, to the
Denominational weekly, The Ban:
ner. The membership was asked
for its opinion on the matter, of-
discontinuing the one service per
month in 'the Duteh language.. It
was later decided by Council to
drop this serviee.
Throughout the evening a spirit
of unity was felt. This was the last
• annual meeting to be' chaired by
Rev. Van Sleinpvtiort as he had
accepted the Call from ,the Le*,
Minnesota, Christian. Reformed
Church, and expected to move at
the end of the year.
• PARENT NIGHT -
On Monday evening,. December
9, the Cadets, and Calvinettess 22
boYs and 35 girIS between the 'ages
of 11 and 15, invited their •parents
to a combined • meeting. 'The
fellowship room . was filled to
overflowing with parents and
teens.
Th'6 Cadets' presented their'
organization's film, "A Man and a'
Boy", which, gave. insight into the
work of cadetting, .how 'a counselor
and cadet together explore God's.
Word and God's 'World'. 'The
Calvinettes showed their filmstrip,
"Jesus Is All The World To 'Me",
Which told of questions a girl. asks,
and the guidance she receives in
Calvinettes. It , was especiall3i fun
for the girls to see some familiar
faces as some of the slides chosen
for the strip came from the
LucknoW group..
Participation by the ,audience
was •given in the' singing Of carols
and to a varied program.
A group of 'boys and 'girls, held a
cake• decorating contest, although a
girl won the first prize, the <boys
received the most points for,
originality of design. .
TwQ plays were presented, one a
comedy, The Freneh Cabinet Mak-
er; the other one a Christmas play .
"No Angels, No Trumpets". A
contemporary family found out that ,
one never knows who comes
knocking at our: door. if the
Innkeeper's wife had known that ,
the Messiah. would be born in her
stable, she too might' have gladly
offered her bed.
Instead of 'the usual exchanging
Of ChristmaS.gifts, the teens done,
ed their money and were so' able to
send $86.00 to Wycliffe Bible
Translators" to buy 3 Cassette
Players and messages to be used
with their work with the Papua in
New :Guinea.
Several . parents canoe to the
annual meeting Of the Lucknow
Christian-School Society on Decem-
ber 13. Concerned that their
children receive little or no relig-
ious training imthe day schools, the
group aids the church in providing
two teachers and materials to
supplement its Sunday School and
Catechism teaching.
For this annual meeting Dr. S..
Greydanus 'of Clarkson, Ontario
spoke on, the topic, - "Spend Time
With Your Children". The speech .
was based on the book of Proverbs.
The speaker underscored the res-
ponsibility,of the parents to know
the world of their children, among
the current problems he especially
mention& was alcoholism. Wis-
dom and understanding is needed
to. guide Well. Wisdom is both
religious.and practical. Stemming
from the fear of, respect to, God
comes the ability to translate faith-
into action. "Train a child in the
way he should go, and you may
expect the definite promises God so
dearly gives in Proverbs."
A lively discussion followed the
speech. At the close of the
meeting; the two Saturday morning
teachers who give instruction to the
12 to 15 year olds, A. Kersten,and
A. Stadig, were presented with a
gift of appreciation.

SUNDAY SCHOOL CONCERT
A Candlelight Christmas pro-
gram was presented by the Sunday
school (Saturday morning -:Bible
School) children on Friday evening,
December 20. The pupils entered
the auditorium singing . "Glory to'
God in the Highest". Mrs. .N.
Peet, the superintendent, welcom-
ed parents and friends and Offered
opening prayer.
The first part of the program'was
given by the 4. 5 and 6 year olds..
who finished with bringing their
'-'bearts with love aglow each
child hung a -gaily decorated heart
on a small evergreen tree.
The older classes then. filled the
large platform, and upon , heating
the questions of the reader Steve
Burns, took turns in speaking and
singing to bring. "the Old, Old
.Story". "Unto you is born this
day. in the city of David. a Saviour.
which is—Chrisf-the
concluded. with the .fact that they
now serve a Living 'Saviour and
sang. "Take all of my heart, Lord'
Jesus".
It was then the children's turn to
listen as Mrs. H. .Burgsma read. a
Christmas story; "Why it could be
a real Christmas for Michael".
Rev. Van Stempyoott thanked all
who took part in the program acid
gave a closing prayer.
The parents enjoyed a cup of
coffee. while the pupil's went to
their classrooms'where they receiv-
ed gifts of a book and fruit. •
SINGING
There were several other activit-
ies during the, week before Christ-
mas: many of the groups held a
dinner. others a skating party. The
Calvinettes as well- as the-Christian
Fellowship Group presented '
program of speaking and singing to
the residents of Pinecrest Manor.
The Joyful Voices part'icpated in
the exceptionally good Lucknow
Community Carol(ortzer.: of 1914.

DANCE-A-THON
On January 24 and 25, R.D.S. is
'holding a dance-a-thou. This trial
will start at 8.00 p.m. on. Friday
night till Saturday at 8.00 p.m. The
proceeds: from this will go towards
the Ripley Recreation Complex.
Sponsor sheets are now available at
the •school.
DRAMA.
The 'drama club completed its
tryouts this week with Bob Camp-
bell, Robert . Colquhoun, Julie
ReeVes, Debbie Beard and Cathy
Dore running off , with the star
positions.
CURLING
New teams are being made up
this week for this is the last week of
the 1st draw. Prizes will be
awarded to the winning team of the
first five weeks.
EXAMS
Everyone is busy this week
writing tests in different subjects in
preparation for the final exams
coming up. , They will be held on
January 22, 23 and 24. The big day
will be on Tuesday, the 21st when
we are told what subjects we will
have to write.
