Causes Accident
Mrs. William (Debbie) Reed,
who resides just north Of Luc,knoW
on the Holyrood road, was sekaus-
ly injured about 10 a.m. on
Saturday morning and is a patient
at University Hospital, London.
The extremely high winds Of
Saturday were the cause of Mrs.
Reed's mishap. In opening the
front door of her home, a strong
gust of wind caught the cloory-
blowing her out onto the cement
walk at the front of the house.
In taking the •tumble Mrs. Reed,
who is 81 years of age; fractured
her right hip and had the end alter,
right elbow broken off. ,
Mr.. Reed, //who was in the house,
was unaware' of his wife's accident.
Mrs. Reed attempted to call for
help and get back to the house,
without success. Several cars
passed the Reed home before
Warren Zinn noticed Mrs.' geed
'lying on.the lawn and, stopped to
investigate and assist. It is thought
she had been lying there for about
10 minutes. He alerted Mr. Reed
and an ambulance removed Mrs,.
Reed to. Wingham Hospital where
she was attended by Dr: M. H.
Corrin befOre being transferred to.
University fldspital in Londont 1 .
Surgery, was slated for Monday
morning on Mrs. Reed's hip and
arm. Her left arm was badly
bruised.

'(Marlene) Coiling of 'Ripley. She
initially was appointed tax collector
for the township and one year ago
was named deputy clerk-treasurer,
working• under the guidance of Mr.
Tout for the past year until her
appointment as clerk-treasurer at
the inaugural meeting, January
6th.
Mrs. Coiling is the former'
Marlene Stanley, daughter of .Mr.
and Mrs. Wm. Stanley of Lucknow
where, she attended public and
secondary school. She has been a
relident of Ripley since her mar-„
riage.
On Thursday, January 9 the
Lucknow Concert Band attended a
concert in Goderich performed by
the. London...Symphony Orchestra.
About 60 •members of the Senior ,
and Junior bands and their leader.
Gordon Cayley' left the Lucknow
school by bus at 7.00 p.m. 'for the

Lucknow District Lions Club, at
their regular meeting on Monday
evening, approved a major project
for thecommunify, the establishing
.of a 4-acre picnic park along the
Lucknow River, , ,
The Site , is south of the J. E.
MacDonald service station on land
that will be leased from the village
of Lucknow and Anderson Flax
Products. Bill Searle has, been
named chairMan, of the project.
Access will be gained ,to the
Earl Tout has retired „as
clerk-treasurer of Huron Township
effecti'Ve at the' naugural meeting
on 'January 6th.
Earl has served the municipality,
for the past 21 years. He
succeeded Dan McKee as clerk and
three years later, with the retire=
ment Of Allan McAuley- as treasur-,
er, Earl assumed th combined
duties of clerk-treasurer.
He -has served under Reeves
Dick Martin, Claude Dore; Chester'
Emmerton, Wm. R. Lowry and
Lions Add Four
New Members
Four new members were instal-
led into' the Lucknow arid District
Lions- Club at Monday's meeting
bringing the club strength to 47
members.
New Lions are Lorne Cook, Torn
Helm, Al Pacey and Allan Gibson.
Ray Buckmier, slated-to join; was
unable to be present and will join at
a-later date.•
The "Apple Pickers" picture,
aken about 1925, will bring back

entertaining evening and was
enjoyed by everyone.

held in the-office of the Township
Public Works Building on Tuesday,
January 7. All members attended
and subscribed' to. their respective
Declarations of Office. ,
The minutes of the final' session
of Council for 1974 were read• and

The weather over 'the past week
end was really different for Janu-
ary. Just before daylight on
Saturday the outside thermometer
showed a temperature reading of
50 degrees Fahrenheit and the sky
was covered with dark strato
cumulus clouds, all moving north-,
ward at a fair speed : Shortly after,
with the son rising, the winds had
swept the sky clear and the
temperature dropped to 47.
By eleven in the 'morning the
south wind was blowing with force
gusts from 55 to 60 miles an hour
were reported. Everything lobse
was blowing around. The force of
the wind ripped apart the metal
and frame hangar housing 'Morgan
Johnston's airplane two blocks east
Three teen-ag6rs were killed and
two others • injured early Saturday
morning, when their car left - High-
way 8 near, the east liMits of
Goderich and struck several trees.
Dead are Dale Alexander Mac-
Auley, 17; of .167 Elgin Street
Goderich; Mark Edward Bowers,
17. and John Samuel Smith, 19,
both of 143 West Street, Apartment
'5, Goderich. •
The driver of the car, Edward
Godfrey, 17, of 115 St. David
Street, Goderich, was transferred
to Victoria Hospital in London
following the 12.56 a.m. accident.
He was ' reported in satisfactory
condition.
Wayne Powell, 17, of Auburn' is.
in satisfactory condition in Alex-
andra Marine and Gene-ral Hospit-
al, Goderich:
One of, the dead youths, John
Samuel Smith, is the son' of WA,
and Mrs. Henry Smith of West
Wawanosh Township, past of Dun-
gannon.
The funeral was conducted at
MacKenzie Memorial Chapel,
Lucknow on Tpqclay at 2 p.m.

suffered some damage.
In, Ripley, a frame wall at the
north side of the Ripley grain
elevafor was torn loose and smash-
ed down.
Friday morning started out as a
fairly mild dull morning but by
early 'afternoon it was terrible - east
winds with driving cold rain
squalls.
To-day(Sunday) it is 20`degyees
outside and real chilly. Friday
rains took away the snow so the
ground which was so soft •and
moddy yesterday,, is' frozen hard.
