Christmas, Dec. ember 21. While
the sOd turning ceremony: Was
heing held at thy field just west of
the bail park, Ur ,the auditorium of
the nearby Ripley District , High
Sehool, ,several girls were putting
up, decorations for the Ripley
Junior. Farmer's dancg that night:
At the Ripley Diamond Jubilee
arena it .was free skating for the
/young people, then with an assist
by the Ripley Firemen "with ..their
bright red new fire truck, Santa
Claus called at the rink with treats
for everyone. 'Just the night.before
the Ripley Huron Legion held their
annual Christmas dance and IttcV
turkey draw with Glenn Boyd' s .
- orchestra supplying the music. ,
Also on Saturday"' evening at the
Ripley 'Huron Legion hail the
Jacklin Farms of Amberley had
their Christmas dinner and party.
The ladies Of, the. Legion Auxiliary
prepared and served the Jacklin
staff and invited guests.

On New Year's Eve the dance in
Ripley was sponsered by,the Ripley
Curling Club. Incidentally, it was
nice to see-a.nd hear M. L. "Tory"
Gregg oftoUdon and Inyerhuron in
his brief appearance on . CKNX
television just before the new year.
We found Guy Lombardo dance
show televised by the CBC at the
Waldorf Astoria ballroom a boring
experience..
On Monday afternoon of this
week, January §, the funeral
service for Mrs. /Gordon Stanley
was held at the McLennan—Mc-
Creath Heine here with interment
in Ripley ceinetery. Sadie Stanley,
as she was known ,affectionately by
a wide, circle of friends, passed
in Rip ey
away 'last Friday in Kincardine
hospital. A few ninths back in her
first fall • on the sidewalk in
Kincardine she suffered
fracture and- has been since 'that
time a patient in St. -Joe's in .
London. and in Kincardine.
Mrs: Stanley, who. was in her'
88th, year., is survived by several
nephews and nieces: Among itheSe
• is' Mrs. Katherine Collins of Purple
Grove, who along with Ripley
neighbours, helped Mrs. Sianley at
'her home in Ripley during her
times of need. Mrs. Stanley will be
missed for 'her. great community
work. She contributed greatly to
organizing and working at the
Ripley Fall Fair for over' 50 years.
Members of the Hill Top Rebekah
Lodge of Bervie held a special
service on Sunday evening at the
funeral home in Ripley. Beside the
Rebekah Lodge and the Ripley
Agricultural Society, Sadie was an
active member in St.' Andrews
United Church, in the Ripley and
District Horticultural 'Society and/in ,
the Ripley Women's" Institute.

members of the Scott families in

entered Kincardine hospital on the
Friday before Christmas and is a
patient there at present.

Home 'for Christmas on Decem-
ber 24 in Ripley with Mt. and Mrs.
Oraen Rock and sons Robert,
Richard and...Ronnie were Mr. and
Mrs. Tom Broome and Dianne of
Auburn and Mr. and Mrs. Jim
MacKenzie of Lochaish.
Last Thursday evening shortly
after ten the street lights in Ripley
blacked 'out and the Ripley water
system was off. A car driven by
Angus .Maclntyre had smashed a
hydro pole a block north of St.
Andrews Church near the home of
Mrs. William Hutchinson and Mr.
and Mrs: Alvery Hayes. The
accident Was investigated by the
Kincardine 0.P.P. and the Kincar-
dine P.U.C. men worked till three
in the morning replacing the pole
and restoring hydro service. On
Friday afternoon village foreman.
Ambrose Gamble removed the
pieces, of broken pole.

Speaking of fractures, last week
Miss Sharon Craigie of Kitchener
suffered a broken ankle while
skiing there. Sharon, a graduate of
the Ripley District High School and
a high school teacher herself, is
teaching in Kitchener. Her parents

Kincardine and formerly of conces-
sion 10, Huron, Were down to visit
Sharon.

Mrs. Hazel (D.J..) MacDonald of
Ripley who has been hospitalized
for some time is now residing with
her daughter Margaret,- Mrs. Hill
in Arthur.

Mrs.. Jessie MacKay of Ripley
celebrated her 95th birthday last
Sunday - January 5, 1975. Mrs.
MacKay resides -at her home with
her son Johnny MacKay at the east
end of the village. All the people of
Ripley and surrounding area ex-
tend best wishes to. Mrs. MacKay
on this occasion.

entertained their neighbours Wed-
nesday evening. Euchre, was
played with high prizes going to
Mrs. Gary Courtney and Cliff
Emmerton. A delicious lunch was
served and a social evening was
enjoyed by all.
Mr. and John Ferguson
visited on Friday evening with Mr.
and Mrs. Jim Nesbitt.
On Sunday Lynn Lowry and Bob
Rutledge sang Star of the East at
Pine River Church". Also Robert
Courtney, Glen- Boyd and. Lynn
Lowry played numbers on their
saxaphones.
Miss Margaret Courtney of
Walkerton spent the'week end with
Mr. and Mrs. Len Courtney and

with his helpers, was at the 'Ripley
Royal "Bank giving everything a
thorough cleaning. This was not
their first job in. Ripley as in the
past few weeks they had done a
cleaning job at two private homes
in the village.. '
