PRESBYTL+'RIAN CHURCH
The Services e.t St. Andrew's church
on Sunday were well attended, Rev,
Mr, Rowand preacbed at the morning
service, under the auspices of the
Lord's Day Alliance. The collection
for this cause amounted to $87.25,
Regular services will be held in St.
Andrews Presbyterian Church next
Sabbath at 11 a. in, and 7 p. m. The
communion of the Lords Supper will
be observed at the morning service
and the pastor, Rev. D. Perrie sill'
preach both morning and evening.
Services preporatory to the Com-
munion will be held on Friday even-
ing of this week at 8 o'clock.
Happy Gleaners Mission Board will
meet on Saturday afternoon at 3.30.

Women's Missionary Society will be

BAPTIST CHURCH
Rev. J. F. Dingman, for the past eix
years pastor of the Baptist Church in
Mount Forest, has accepted a call to
Wingharn, assuming charge the next
Sunday June 4th. We welcome Mr.
Dingman and wife to town and con-
gratulate the Baptist congregation in
securing a pastor wilt the ability and
personality of Mr. Dingman, Mre,
Dingman is a talented musician and
many were delighted with her patriotic
solo at the recruiting meeting in the
town ball here on May 21st.

NORTH HURON LIBERALS
Tne annual meeting of the North
Huron Liberal Association as constit-
uted for Federal purposes, was held in
the Council Chamber here on Tuesday
afternoon. Owing to the busy season
with the farmers and the bad roads,
the attendance was small.
The usual routine business was

Arthur Wheeler of the 4th con, of
Thornberry. Thelr many friends in
this vicinity sympathize with them in
their sad bereavement.

There passed peal efully away, at
Blyth on Wednesday, May 24tb,Flor-
ence Gertrude Tainan, in her 3rd
year. Deceased had been afflicted
with pulmonary trouble for over a
year, and finally succumbed to the
ravages of the disease. She leaves to
mourn her lose her father and mother
and three sisters and two brothers
viz., Mrs, Stewart of Listowel, Mrs.
Burgess of Asquith, Sask; and Miss
Emma at home also Ed, and Charles
of Seek. Service was. conducted at
thehome on Friday by Rev, . W. B.
Hawkins, rector of Trinity church.
The pall bearers were six soldier boys
of town, namely, Ptes. Russell Woode,
James Inions, James Robots, Eitel
Watt, Sohn. Cowan,' Walter Cowan.

A deep gloom was cast over the vi-
cinity of East Wawanosh on Sunday
afternoon when it was learned that,
Agnes, beloved wife of Mr. J. B. Tyre -
man had passed suddenly away at her
home on the 12Th con. Mrs. Tyreman
had not been in the best of health ' for
some time but she was oply taken to
bed last Friday. Deceased was of a
quiet disposition and was respected by
everyone who had the pleasure of her.

husband from Hullett townehip to
East Wawanosh about seventeen years
ago. Besides her sorrowing husband
she is survived by her aged mother,
Mrs. Demon, who resides in Huron
township near Kincardine. Mr, Ed.
Dawson of the Lake Shore Road just
south of Kincardine is a brother. The
funeral which was held on Wednes-
day to the G. T. R. station at WIng.
ham was largely attended. Rev. D. D.
Thompson officiated owing to the
absence of her pastor, Rev, Mr. Hit-
bert, who is attending conference.
Interment took place in the family
burying plot in Kincardine cemetery.
'MRS. W. F. VANSTONn
Friends were shocked to hear on
Wednesday morning of the sudden
death of Minnie J. Montgomery, be-
loved wife of Mr. W. F. VanStone,
who passed away during the night at
the age of 51 years. Mrs. VanStone
had not been in the best of health for
some time but was only i11 for about a
day. She had motored to Clinton on
Monday to say "Farewell" to her only
son, Capt, C. G. VanStone,adjntant of
the 161st, before he left for camp at
London. Mrs. V4nStone was a consist-
ent member of St. Pant's church and
ode of the most respected residents of
Wingbagn. Besides her husband and
son,she is survived by three daughters,
Mrs. R. H. Forester of Perry, Okla.
home and Misses Norma and Freda at
home.
The funeral will be held from her
late residence on Saturday morning.

One of the feat remaining pioneers
of the vicinity of Whitechurch passed
away on Tuesday, May 23. in the pelt`
son of Mrs. James Ross. She was if
her 91th year and deatb was one to
the natural infirmities of old age, tit

which she contracted a few days preit
ious to her death,

garet McDonald, and she was born in
Roaehire, Scotland. When a young
woman, she crossed the ocean to the
States, at that time a voyage of eleven
weeks, and landed at New Orleans,
coming up the Mississippi and cross.

Mr. Arthur Shaw has recently purchas-
ed a new Ford car from S. Carter of
Brussels.
On Saturday night, May 27th, a goodly
number of friends and neighbors gather-
ed at the home of Sergt. Wm. Holt and
after a short program of solos, instru-
mentals and speeches, with Mr. George
Johnston acting as chairman, Miss Jen-
nie 'Simpson read a suitably worded ad-
dress signed by Andrew Pollock, Ber-
nice Payne, Ed. Johnston and James
Pocock, while Andrew Polock presented
Sergt. Holt with a gold headed cane, a
161st signet ring and a Waldamere knife
and chain, Mr. Holt, taken by surprise,
made a brief reply thanking all who con-
tributed to getting him the beautiful gifts.

Bluevale Ladies Institute will be held on
June 8th in the basement of the Presby-
terian; Church, a special speaker has been
engaged to be present, a Mrs, Lowe of
Hespler, her. subject to be on Patriotic
work Mrs. Lowe has beep an enthusias-
tic worker in local institutes as well as
a lecturer for the Agricultural department
in this province, and in Nebraska. Her
pncctical experience, wide reading and
tact, insure an address of value and in-
terest. Meeting to begin sharp at 2 p.
m. Everybody interested in this work
cordially invited. We would like a num-
ber of our girls to be present.

Dr. Mary Findlater spent a couple of
days with her sister, Mrs. J. Clegg.
Mrs, J. Currie of Wingham, has been
attending her sister, Mrs, Tom Brydges,
who has been quite ill.
Mrs. Bird of Stratford, is visiting at
the home of Sam Jordon.
Rev. and Mrs. Parnaby are motoring
to Kingsville where they will attend cdn-
ference,
There will be no service in the Metho-
dist church next Sunday.
Joe Ruddy of Wingharn, and Tom
Brandon of Listowel, spent the 24th at
Henry Brandon's,
Mr. Schafer of Wingham,is doing some
house decorating in the village.
Mr. A. H. Wilford .of Wingham and
Dr. Ed. Wilford, a medical missionary,
who is on furlough from Cbina, were
calling on old friends on Sunday.
Mr, and Mrs. Earnest Geddes motored
to Bayfield on Sunday.
There was about 40 tickets sold here
for Clinton on the 24th, besides a great
many motoring out.
Blyth
Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Cumings left
here Tuesday morning on a visit to mem•
bers of their family in Winnipeg and
Saskatchewan, they purpose being away
three months.
Dr. and Mrs. Geddes of Lucknow, on
returningfrom Seaforth in their auto on
Sunday evening,. met with a slight
mishap about two miles east of town, by
trying f avoid a rut in the road, the Dr.
mrde a sharp curve and the car capsized.
With the assistance of Afr. Isaac Brown
of town they were able to proceed home-
ward.
Mr, Robert Faiirservice of Hullett, has
purchased a Gray Dirt car from Moore
and. Taylor, they sold another to Mr,
Frank Marshall of East Wawanosh.'
The play, "Teddy, or the Runaways"
will be presented in Industry Hall on`
Friday evening, June 2nd, by local tal-
ent. Proceeds in aid of the Red Cross
Circle.
Our soldier boys were given a royal
send-off on -leaving town -Monday last.
At the appointed time the band was on
hand and marched the boys to the out-
skirts of the town. There were sixty
soldier boys in line followed by a large
concourse of ladies in the procession.
This locality has done well in raising re-
cruits for the 161st, considering that 13
were rejected being physically unfit.
Dr. E. C. Wilford of West China, ar-
rived in town on Saturday evening,, ac-
companied by his brother, Albert of
Wingham. Mrs. Wilford will visit her
mother in Owen Sound before coming
here. In the absence of the pastor, Rev,
George Jewitt at conference,,Dr. Wilford
will have.cha'rge of the services in the
Methodist Church Sunday evening.
