Wm. Edgar, late of the township
of Remick, second eon of the late
Alexander Edgar, was caned to his
reward on April 7th, 1010, Ile was
bora in the township of North bum -
fries, near Ayr, on the 18th of August,
1860, and' two years later, with his
parents, moved to Howick. In No-
vember 1887, he married Jane Hutcht.,
son, who survives him. She is the
youngest daughter of the late Adana
Hutchison, He leaves a family of two
sons and two daughters, via—Alex.
Nichol, of 4th con. of Howick; Lillian,
Agnes and Brune at home. His aged
mother, two brothers and one deter
alsovurvive hind. Mr: Edgar was one
of Howick's'best citizens and for ser
oral years he served the township by
collecting its revenue.
Away with Pioneers
Twelve members of the 101st Huron
battalion. transferred to the 4th Cana-
diRfi Pioneers now being --mobilized at
Landon:: This battalion will leave for
overseas at once. The boys who left
the 101st are: Ptes Moore and C. M.
Bell, of Clinton; Ptes. Gander and
Backus, of Wingham; Ptes. Wiste,
Whitley and Cockfield, Goderich; Ptes
Oppenheizer and Haines of Brussels,
Ptes. Hopkins and Heddan, of Exeter
and Pte. Richardson, of Blyth.
Coal Prices to Raise
Philadelphia, May 1.—Anthracite
operators here to -day said that the
prices of prepared sizes of coal will
have to be increased to the consumers
as a result of the agreement that has
been reached with the mine workers
in the hard coal fields,
S. D. Wariner, president of the
Leheigh Coal & Navigation Company,
said the new wage agreement would
involve between $10,000,000 and $12,-
000,000 a year.

PATEY REMANDED
Ed, Patey, of Wingham, the man
who was arrested at, Toronto by Officer
Phippen, of Wingham, after a chase
lasting nearly a year, appeared before
the judge at Goderich on Saturday
and was remanded, Patey was charg-
ed with attempting hie own life, He
denies that be escaped from custody
and that he tried to avoid arrest sub-
sequently, When captured he was in
unitorm with the 170th Battalion, and
had been recruiting for them for some
time, He is said to be a fine soldier,
and a most valuable recruiter,
Division Court will he held in the
town hall on Thursday, A number of
cases in the docket, judge Holt pre-
siding.

The annual vestry meeting of Trinity
Church had a fair attendance. The rec-
tor•'s report showed the work to be pro -
grossing satisfactorily. The warden's
report was not complete, and an adjourn-
ment for a week was grantee], The offic-
ers appointecl tor the year were: Rector's

den, G. C. McTaggart; sidesmen, C.

in connection with the annual Sunday

Mr. and Mrs. James Huckatep were
suddenly called to Goderich on Tiles -
day owing to the serious illness of the
former's sister, Mrs. Captain 1VNcLeod,
who passed peacefully away the same
evening. The body was taken to
Detroit on Monday for interment,
Owing to the continued wet weather
the farmers in this vicinity are getting
anxious about seeding operations.

Methodist Church on Sunday evening,

unpleasant experience a few evenings ago.
His horse by some means wandered into
the river, and it was beginning to darken,
so the Lr. set out in a boat to get it. i3y
the splashing of the horse the Dr, was
upset out of the boat and it was with
great difficulty that he got the animal to
shore.
Me, Thomas Higgins passed away Sun-
day morning at ten o'clock after a linger-
ing; iilneas, 'I'he funeral was held on
Tuesday afternoon, interment being made
in the Wroxeter cemetery.
