God’s joy, The theme of the sermon on Dec. 17 at Blyth United Church was “God’s Joy and Delight in the Humble.” ‘ Rev. Ernest Dow talked about how this is the Joy Sunday in Advent. He mentioned that sometimes at this time of year we feel more stress, than joy. Rev. Dow told how “joy is found in humbling ourselves before God, and quieting ourselves in the love, joy and delight God Himself has in those who trust in Him.” The featured scripture was Zephaniah. Rev. Dow explained how before people can understand the joy, they must understand what is the Majestic meets The Majestic Women’s Institute held its Christmas meeting in the Brussels Country Inn beginning with a delicious turkey dinner at noon. There were 19 present. President, Peggy Keffer, read a poem on “Christmas Treasures”. It was decided to pack the Christmas boxes on Dec. 18 at Maple Villa at I p.m. The Institute is having a casserole supper foliov ed by euchre in the Brussels Library on Jan. 4 at 6:30 p.m. Plans were made for that. Leona Armstrjng conducted Who Wants to Be a M'llionaire which was enjoyed by all. Santa Claus arrived and gave out the gifts. United Church theme major problem that prevents joy. He said the key problems are “pride, our self-sufficiency, being too full of us.” God’s solution to this is to be hum ble. Rev. Dow said how the word humble can be paralleled to the phrase “you who do what (the Lord) commands.” Rev. Dow then spoke about what is the cause of joy. “First, joy comes knowing God is with us.” Second, “joy comes from knowing God’s saving power.” Third “joy comes from knowing God’s delight, love s E A S O N 'S Auburn and joy in us.” Rev. Dow, then spoke of how Jesus Christ makes this real. He spoke of the prophecy of tne birth of a son who would be called Immanuel, which means “God with us”. He also spoke of how the gospel is full of accounts of Jesus healing oth ers, and how people “received a glimpse of God’s being as they saw Jesus delighting in them.” The con gregation was told humility is the key to “discovering God’s joy in our lives.” In this celebration without stop, we’d like to start... by saying thanks for all your kindness and support.
