double-header action
beat Blyth, Zurich
It was a big victory for
Brussels PeeWees when they
faced-off against neighbour
ing rivals at home on Dec. 15.
While keeping Blyth off the
board until the second period,
the hosts lit the light three
times in the first to lake an
early solid lead. Adam
McCluie scored two, while
Andrew McDonald tallied
one. Brent Wheeler assists on
both of McClure’s goals, with
a helper from Doug Schnock
on the second, while assits on
the McDonald goal were
creditted to Greg Bowers and
Steven Ropp.
Phil Wedow, off a play by
Matt McClinchey put the
hosts up 4-0 early in the sec
ond, but less than a minute
later Blyth got one past the
Brussels netminder to cancel
it. With just five minutes left
in the period, Wheeler bulged
the twine, assisted by Mitch
Blake, then scored another
with seconds remaining. Matt
White and Wedow set up the
play.
Brussels continued to domi
nate in the third, with Wedow
scoring two early-period
goals for a hattrick. White,
Justine Mayne and
McClinchey with two earned
the assists.
Blyth popped one in less
than a minute later. Then with
just over three minutes
remaining, McClure got Tiis
hattrick goal assisted by
Wheeler and Tyler Jutzi. This
ended the scoring and sealed
the 9-2 win.
It was a closer contest on
Dec. 17 when Brussels trav
elled to Zurich. After a score
less first period, White, with
an assist from Bowers got the
visitors on the board in the
second. With almost five min
utes remaining in the period,
Wedow put Brussels up by
two with a helper from Tate
Stephenson. Then with sec
onds remaining before the
buzzer Wedow scored his sec
ond. Wheeler earned the
assist.
Things got tense in a penal
ty-riddled third period as
Brussels managed only one
more, while Zurich popped in
three. The hosts had pulled to
within one just minutes into
the period but McClinchey
gave them back the two-point
spread, assisted by Wheeler.
This proved to be much
needed insurance as, with 35
seconds left on the clock,
Zurich got within one once
again.
Brussels held on for the 4-3
win.

On Sunday, Dec. 17, the
Saugeen-Maitland Lightning
Bantam Girls handed
Hamilton their first loss in
league play this season.
In the first period, both
teams sparred back and forth,
feeling each other out to end
the period scoreless.
The Lightning went on a
five-minute powerplay early
in the second period and was
rewarded when Heather
Walker rattled one in off the
post from a pass by Katie
Whytock. Just as the penalty
ended, Brittany Roberts, on a
breaking pass from Walker,
walked in all alone to give the
team a two-goal lead.
Hamilton was still reeling

ITMPORAFTr FIREARMS LICENCE
Public safety remains the cornerstone of the firearms program.
For example, temporary licences are only being issued
to those who are successfully screened against Canadian
Police Information Centre (CPIC) databases. And, like current
licence holders, those with temporary firearms licences will
be continuously screened against police databases.
Firearms licences will be issued only to those found eligible
after further screening.
These public safety checks conform to the Firearms Act and keep
firearms away from those who should not have them.
Temporary licences will be issued to eligible firearm owners who applied in the
fall. Temporary licence holders are not permitted to acquire firearms. However,
they will be in legal possession of their firearms and they will be able to purchase
ammunition as of January 1, 2001. Temporary licences
are only valid until June 30, 2001 or until those
eligible receive their 5-year licence.
