Huron County 4-H holds annual achievement night I I The Annual 4-H ceremony was held on Nov. 19. This year’s top scoring member in the Huron 4-H Agricultural Machinery Club was David VandenHoven. His prize was donated by Vincent Farm Equipment Ltd. The top novice Agricultural Machinery Club member was Nathaniel Peel who received his award from the Huron County Federation of Agriculture. Friends of 4-H certificates were presented to Gay Lea, Seaforth Agriculture Society, Huron County Women’s Institute, Cargill Limited, Formosa Insurance Company, Ivomec, Huron Dairy Producers, Brussels Livestock Yard, Brussels Show and Sale Committee, Western Ontario Lamb Producers and Howick Mutual Insurance Company. The winners of the Press Reporter Competition, sponsored by Signal Star Publishing were Natalie Romijn and Stacey Reinsma of Clinton. Second place went to Tonya Drost and third went to Melinda Scott. The Vincent Farm Equipment Trophy for top educational display at the Seaforth Fall Fall went to the St. Columban Club. Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Huron County Branches prize for the top judge at the Huron County 4-H judging competition went to Rebecca Bruton. The Hill and Hill Farms Award for the top senior judge went to Sandra Alton. Cargill Limited Award for the high intermediate judge went to Rebecca Burton. Hill and Hill Farms Award for the high junior judge went to Brett Bean. The Hensail District Co-operative, Londesboro Branch donates an award to the top novice judge, and the winner this year was Garritt Vincent. The Watson Home Hardware Team Judging Competition Award presented to the top team in the County judging went to Adrian Gentensperger, Matt McGregor, David VandenHoven and Derek VanDieten. Cargill Limited presented a watch to each competitor in the “Go for the Gold” competition. This year’s win­ ning team members, Sarah Broadfoot, Tonya Drost, Nicole Moore and Stephanie Munday were from the Huron Sheep Club. The team represented the county well, placing third in the provincial com­ petition. The Toronto-Dominion Bank Award for Champion Sweepstakes Showman at the Seaforth Fall Fair went to Stephanie Munday. The Stan Jackson award for Grand Champion Beef Steer at the Seaforth Fall Fair went to Brad Gilchrist, Jackie Klapak won the Reserve Champion, Cole Vincent exhibited third place steer and Garrett Vincent won fourth place. The award winner for the Champion Heifer was Doug Johnston, with Ben VanDiepenbeek receiving the Reserve Champion Heifer award. Jeff Cranston received the third place award and Melinda Scott won the fourth place award. Jon Drennan had 911 out of 1000 points to win the high score in Huron County Beef Clubs. Hensall District Co-op’s award for the top exhibit of winter wheat at the Seaforth Fair went to Seaforth 1. The Huron Sheep Club was the winner of the Huron County Soil and Crop Improvement award for the top club exhibit of first cut hay at the fair The Cook’s Division of Parrish and Heimbecker Ltd. trophy for the champion white bean exhibit at the fair went to the Huron Sheep Club. The winner of the champion soy­ bean at the Seaforth Fall Fair was the Huron Sheep Club. This award is sponsored by First Line Seeds. The award for champion haylage went to Seaforth 1. This award is sponsored by Les and John Coleman. The Russell T. Bolton Memorial Trophy was presented to the Central Huron Swine Club for the Champion Com exhibit at the Seaforth Fair. Seaforth 1 won the W. G. Thompson Award for the top barley exhibit at the fair. The winners of the Secretary’s Book Competitions were: First - Brad Gilchrist, and second Nikki Howard. Six-project award winners were: Tyson Arts, Jennifer Bere, Nicole Binnendyk, Yvonne DeWit, Angela Jordon, Jill McCullough, Sara Moore, Dianne Murray, Simon Myersscough, Coral Nicholson, Jeremy Phelan, Melissa Sparling, Derek VanDiepenbeek, Mark VanDiepenbeek, Garrett VanDieten, Shawn VanDyk, Thomas Veens and Tim Wilkins. Kasey Crawford, Shawn Drost, Robyn Etherington, Adrian Guntensperger, Doug Johnston, Jessica Logtenberg, Louise McBride, Shawn Van Bakel, Terrianne Young and Nicole Moore received the 12-project awards. The 18-project award winners were Tonya Drost, Jennifer MacLean, John Storey and Alysha Crawford. The 24-project award winners were Sarah Broadfoot, Sara Speiran and David VandenHoven. Michelle DeWitt received the 30-projects award and Kelly McNee the 36-proj- ect award. The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Huron County Branches present an award to the 4-H Dairy Club member with the highest over­ all score in the county. This year the winner was Kora Bennett. Kora Bennett also received the Elliott Insurance of Blyth trophy for Champion Dairy Calf at the Seaforth Fair. The Holstein Club Awards for 4-H Dairy Club members with the first and second highest scores in the county went to Jeremy Phelan for first and Shawn VanBakel for sec­ ond. The Reserve Champion Trophy donated by the Auburn Co-op was won by Brandon Bennett. The Bank of Nova Scotia Award for Novice Dairy Showman also went to Brandon Bennett. As well, he received The Huron Bay Co-op award for Champion Dairy Showman.. The Reserve Champion Dairy Showman Award sponsored by D & D Glass was awarded to Kora Bennett. The Huron County Beef Producers’ Award for the first year beef club member with the highest score went to Garritt Vincent. The Y.I.S. Financial Award for Champion Senior Beef Showman at the Seaforth Fall Fair was won by Doug Johnston. Doug Johnston was also the winner of the Brussels Agri Services Award for Champion Beef Showman. The Maple Ridge Beef Farm Award for Champion Junior Beef Showman donated by Paul Coultes was presented to Brad Gilchrist. Sandra Alton, Brad Gilchrist and Doug Johnston won the W.J. (Bill) Sproul Memorial Award for the Top Beef Group of three. The Rona Cashway Award for the Champion Goat Showman at the Seaforth Fall Fair went to Mike Gingerich. Sarah Broadfoot won the award for the Reserve Goat Showman sponsored by Gallagher Fencing. The Jan Hayward Award for the goat club member with the highest score went to Sarah Broadfoot and Stephanie Munday. Greg Munday won the Kootstra Farms Award for the Huron Goat Club 4-H Novice member with the highest score. The Paul Klopp Award for the goat club member who put forth an out­ standing effort went to Ben Renaud. The Neil McGavin Award for the highest score in the Huron County Plowmens Club went to Tyson Arts. Tyler Teichert received the John Franken Memorial Trophy for being the member of the Goderich Gallopers with the highest score. The Royal Bank Award for the first year member in the 4-H Sodbuster Club with the highest score went to Bill Beeny. Andy Pethick received the Ross Gordon Award to the 4-H Sodbuster member who had the best crown at the 4-H Junior Day. The Townsend Tire Award presented to the youngest 4-H member active in the Sodbuster Club went to Andy Pethick. Ian Gordon, who was the Sodbuster with the highest score at the International Plowing Match received the Agvise Award. The Sodbusters Leader Award for top land plowed at the achievement program by a competi­ tive plow was awarded to Andy Pethick and Tyson Arts won the award for non-competitive plow. The Doug Kennedy Award for Reserve Champion Sheep Showman at the Seaforth Fall Fair was present­ ed to Rebecca Bruton. Stephanie Munday received the Helen Johns Award for Champion 4-H Sheep Showman. The Lucknow Co-op Award given to the Novice Sheep Club member with the highest score went to Keshia Bishop. Tonya Drost received the Old Mill Award for the sheep club member with the highest score. The Canadian Co-operative Wool Growers Award went to Candace Procter for Champion 4-H fleece. The Rodney VanEngen Award is awarded to the Novice Horse Club member with the highest score. Vanessa MacDonald was the winner. Kaitlyn Toll won the Champion Road Machinery Award for Junior Horse Club member with the highest score and Tyler Teichert won the Champion Road Machinery Award for being Intermediate Horse Club Member with the highest score. The Bank of Montreal Award for the Swine Club member with the highest score went to Shelly Kroes. The Champion 4-H market pig award for the Seaforth Fall Fair and provided by Ed Watson was present­ ed to Brad Kroes. Allen Storey received the Huron County Pork Producers’ Award for the highest score in the 4-H Swine Club. The Bank of Nova Scotia Award to the Champion 4-H Swine Showman at the Seaforth Fall Fair was present­ ed to David VandenHoven. John Storey received the Huron County Pork Producers’ Award for reserve Champion Showman. The Bergsma Award, awarded by Bruce and Marie Bergsma and family for Champion 4-H Gilt at the Seaforth Fall Fair was presented to Shelly Kroes. Doug Johnston and Jackie Klapak have both reached the age of 21 and have completed their years as 4-H members.
