Brussels council
briefs
At the Dec. 6 meeting of Brussels
council, Councillor Joe Seili, one of
two representatives for the Brussels
Ward in the new municipality of
Huron East, said he had some ques
tions regarding public works.
Seili said that the scheduling of
employees was just one of the things
that didn’t make sense to him. “I
have spoken with some of the other
councillors and they agree,” he said,
adding that he plans to revisit this
with the new council.
Clerk-Treasurer Donna White said
that as a Brussels resident she want
ed to thank Councillor Mary Stretton
and Reeve Ralph Watson for their
work with the transition board and
stated that she feels Seili and
Councillor Greg Wilson will make
signficant contributions to the new
municipality now. “I’m sure it’s
going to be great.”
***
Henry Rouw was present to pro
vide an update on the construction of
the new sludge storage tank. He said
’having the work complete by the end
of the month, when the Ontario
Clean Water Agency will no longer
be operating the sewage treatment
plant, could be a “tough schedule”.
He suggested that OCWA continue
to oversee the work until the new
year. The part will be there by then
and he will look into names for the
installation on contract.***
A bylaw is to be prepared for the
dissolution of Brussels PUC. White
said, “It may be overkill but we will
have something on the books.”***
The engineer’s report for the new
water regulations was filed in time
for the Nov. 30 deadline. It address
es the need for the installation of a
chlorinator at the second well.
“This was something we knew and
we have intended to do,” said White.
The well is not currently used but
once the chlorinator is installed the
town could be split between the two
wells.***
Snowplowing in the village had to
begin before the contract date.***
White said that the CIBC had
donated $100 to the Communities on
Patrol program. This will be left at
J.R.’s for the purchase of gas for the
volunteers.***
Agnes TenPas has asked for the
pictures of the main street which cur
rently hang in the municipal office
for her store. Council agreed on the
condition it be put in writing that the
pictures must be returned to the
municipality if her store closes.
***
With the municipal office closing
White had a question regarding the
keys for the library as well as the
Citizens on Patrol bag and where
they could be left for pick-up. Arena
manager Murray McArter will be
contacted to see if they can be left
there.
Radford’s has offered to sell bag
tags and the Optimists will find a
place for the letters for the sign at the
medical centre lawn.**♦
White said that a $100 anonymous
reward had been offered for informa
tion regarding damage to the gazebo.
One tip had been received and this
had been given to the police for fur
ther investigation.***
A building permit was issued to
Rick Sallows for an enclosed porch.
