Nancy Beale - Rector - 887-9273 By Rev. Dave Wood Huron Chapel Evangelical Missionary Church, Auburn Little Frannie was all ready for Christmas. She had busied herself with shopping, baking and decorat ing and could now avoid the throngs of last minute shoppers. Her sister, Little Annie had spent her time glued to the TV and as the realization of the approaching day dawned upon her, she was seized with a panic. Little Frannie enjoyed quite a few chuckles as she watched Little Annie race around in a dither trying to find the gifts she had neglected to pick up. Next year, vowed Little Annie, she would not be caught unprepared and so avoid the unnecessary strife. There is something to be said about being prepared! Are you ready for Christmas? How many times have you heard this line so far this year? It would seem that with the season upon us we are once again thrust into the hol iday mode whether we like it or not. Lights are twinkling and cedar boughs are displayed in decorative fashion as houses are transformed, inside and out, in honour of the yule- tide season. As for me, I got into it and strung up a few bulbs here and there and even managed thus far to avoid elec trocution. But am I ready for Christmas ...! It is easy to decorate the outside. It is relatively easy to prepare the external spaces but I have found it is much more difficult to look to the heart. The hustle and bustle, the “spirit” of the season can keep us so busy and preoccupied that we often crowd out and neglect the “Reason for the Season”. Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ. Christmas is about “Good News that is for all people, a Saviour has been bom and He is Christ the Lord”. But I wonder, is there any room for Him today? The people of the time of Christ longed for a Saviour but was the world ready? Rome, the power of the day did not even acknowledge His birth. Herod, the usurper of His throne, tried to destroy Him. To top it all off, there was no room for Him at the inn and the world left the welcome, of the visitation of God to some shepherds in a manger! Was it ready for Christmas? Was the world ready to receive the King? They needed Him. They longed for Him but they could not see that the need of the heart was the intent of His Advent. He came to His own but His own would not receive Him. The hope of the ages had come but for so many this hope had been sti fled and they were not ready for Christmas. Almost 20 centuries have passed and the world is still in need. The Christ of Christmas remains the answer to this need. Jesus takes us beyond the externals and He does a work in the heart. Good news, baby grew up, He became a man and died on a cross to give to you and me the greatest gift of all, hope that springs eternal! Are you ready for Christmas? Not just on the outside, but on the inside? Are you ready to accept the Greatest Gift, Jesus, Who is Christ the Lord?
