Blyth council briefs Gypsy Lane paving needs work in spring Paving of Gypsy Lane in Blyth has been mostly completed but some of the pavement will have to be replaced in the spring, Clerk- Treasurer John Stewart told village council at its Dec. 4 meeting. Lavis Contracting of Clinton hur ried to get the job finished in time for the Santa Claus Parade held Dec. 2, but some of the ground was frozen and the temperature was so low that some of the asphalt is not expected to set properly. It may mean that chunks will have to be replaced in the spring. *** The process of shutting down the Wingham police force and contract ing the Ontario Provincial Police to serve all of the new municipality of North Huron may take until mid- 2001, Stewart said. As part of the process the OPP will be conducting interviews with any member of the public who would like to comment on the issue. The interviews will be at the Wingham Armouries on Thursday, Dec. 7 from 1 -8 p.m. and will be private. Anyone wishing to take part can call the Wingham municipal office for an appointment. *** The Blyth Union Cemetery board may soon be able to sell lots in the new portion of the cemetery, Stewart said. An application for provincial approval has been on hold for two or three years, he said, but he had recently contacted the ministry and been given verbal assurance the application would be approved. “Some time next year we will be able to start selling lots in that sec tion,” he said. *** Renovations to the Wingham Town Hall to house the new offices of the Twp. of North Huron are ahead of schedule and everything should be in place for the Jan. I beginning of the new municipality, Councillor Jeff Howson told council. *** Council supported a resolution from Howick Twp. that the Ministry of Environment should provide 100 per cent funding for additional water testing required under new provin cial regulations.
