Seniors Certificates great gift ideas ■ Electric Scooters By Carol McDonnell Do you hate shopping? Have fussy people on your list? Gift certificates could well be the solution to your problems. They can be purchased over the phone, at a place of business or over the inter net. The receiver has the anticipation of using their gift certificate and con trol over the timing of that use. The giver has wrapped up their purchas es with ease and also can anticipate the enjoyment of the recipient. And they are easy to send in the mail. On my retirement, I received two gift certificates, both much appreci ated, but for different reasons. After watching Lorie and Jim Snyder’s light aerochutes (like an ultralight except it uses parachutes instead of wings) flying in the Wingham area I dreamt of going for a ride one day. These photos show the fall day, with the colours at their best, when I used one gift certificate which made this dream come true. Another gift certificate introduced me to a new experience, which I had never indulged in - a manicure and a pedicure. What a great feeling to be pampered! I highly recommend this present for some practical soul on your list who will never get around to booking this treat on their own. Most seniors on your gift list don’t need something else to dust. Many of them are probably giving away or selling objects which they don’t use very often. A great gift certificate would be to a favourite restaurant or that new restaurant which just opened, and much appreciated by someone on a limited income. Or consider a certifi cate for a massage service, the LCBO, a clothing store, a concert series, or vouchers for our own world famous Blyth Festival. For teenagers on your list, find out which is their favourite clothing store, and purchase a gift certificate there. You can’t go wrong with a cer tificate for a large chain of stores selling CDs. Consider their interests. My athlet ic niece went for an indoor rock climbing experience at Spikes in London where they also have indoor beach volleyball. A young family might also appre ciate a restaurant gift certificate to - introduce their children to food above the fast food lane. A hardware store or department store certificate could help with home improvement. Consider donating to a favourite charity in your recipient’s name. As well, a gift certificate to a Thousand Villages store or a UNICEF store would ensure the benefits of many when the recipient shops. Finally, consider a gift certificate using your talents! Woodworking, baking, sewing, quilting, gardening, babysitting, mechanical assistance, playing a concert with your musical instrument - all these would be help ful to a young, busy family, or to friends of any age for that matter. By the way, hubby, a gift certifi cate to that outdoors store in Goderich would be just a bit of ter rific (hint).
