Youth eoiiduct service at Duffs United Church
Margaret Craig and Betty McCall
greeted worshippers at Duff’s United
Church on Dec. 3, the first Sunday in
Advent, and White Gift Sunday.
Adam McClure led the responsive
Call to Worship and asked everyone
to sing the opening hymn.
Joan Tuchlinsky made several
announcements. The UCW
Christmas dinner is Wednesday, Dec.
6 at 6:30 p.m. Since there was a lot
of turkey left from the fowl supper,
people are asked to bring only sal
ads, or veggies or dessert. Dec. 10 at
Brussels United Church the annual
choir sing will take place.
Next Saturday the youth group is
having a bake table at the Walton
Hall. Call Shannon Gibbons if you
are willing to help them out with
baking.
Heidi and Jennifer McClure were
thanked for making the beautiful
Advent Banner. The decorating of
the church was done by Maxine
Houston and Marie McGavin.
The Longest Night Service will be
held Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. at Duff’s
United Church.
Andrew VanVliet led the congre
gation in the Prayer of Approach and
Prayer of Confession. Gloria Wilbee
sang, Waiting for the Kingdom of
God. The lighting of the Advent
Candle and the reading of the liturgy
was done by Lukas Beisinger and his
mom Evelyn. The White Gift play
was then performed by James
Durrell as narrator, Cassandra Banks
as Jane, Laura Black as Sarah and
Patty Banks filling in for Beth Black
as the mother. Hebrew scripture was
read by Justin Beisinger and the
Epistle reading was done by Josh
Beisinger. Joan read the gospel read
ing, then her message called, What
are You Waiting For?
Piano solos were performed bril
liantly by Jacob and Mackenzie
McGavin. The bell ringers, Abby
McGavin, Jacob and Mackenzie
McGavin and Ryan Baan and
Shelley McGavin filling in for
William Ringgenberg, did a great job
of playing Jingle Bells.
Mark Wilbee then invited people
to give their offerings and white
gifts. Brandon McGavin and Nick
Durrell took up the offering and all
the other children went out into the
congregation to bring forward the
White Gifts.
Andrew VanVHet then helped Joan
with the prayers for the people. The
Star-Giving reading was given by
Matt huether, Nick Durrell, Lukas
Beisinger and Ray Huether.
The Benediction was then given
by Jeff Black.
The evening Family Advent night
was a wonderful success with some
50 people attending. A scavenger
hunt started the evening with people
working in groups to find all the
items on their lists. Then a delicious
potluck supper was enjoyed by
everyone.
After supper the older children,
parents and friends went upstairs to
decorate the huge, 10-foot Christmas
tree while the younger children and
parents heard a story about St.
Nicholas and the parents hid gold
coin chocolates for the children to
find. After that the children hid the
coins and the adults had to find them.
A get to know you bingo game was
played where they had to find the
people who belonged to the informa
tion on the sheets. Then each family
made an Advent Banner to take
home. Christmas carols were sung
and during the singing of Jingle
Bells, Santa Claus surprised every
one as he came in ringing his bells. It
was a great night and everyone had
fun.
Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Walton
Hall a Christmas shopping Event,
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. will take
place. There will be at least 15 tables
set up with crafts, baking,
Tupperware, Jocus Toys, Watkins
