Sports Brussels PeeWees have busy weekend The Brussels PeeWees had a very busy weekend, playing a league game against Hensail Friday night then travelling to Lucknow for a tournament Saturday. A strong effort by the hometeam saw Brussels shutout Hensall 5-0. Scoring for the Bulls were Brent Wheeler (two), Phil Wedow, Greg Bowers and Matt White. Assists went to Adam McClure (two), White (two), Mitch Blake, Justin Mayne, Matt McClinchey and Cory Chapman. Brussels met Blyth in the first game of the Saturday tournament, outscoring their opponent 5-1. Though Blyth struck first at 9:25 of the first period, it was all Brussels after that as two goals from Wedow and a single from White put Brussels up 3-1 by the end of the frame. McClinchey, Tyler Jutzi and Mayne earned assists. McClure popped one in at 3:41 of the second with assistance from Bowers and Blake. Blake topped off the scoring at 2:10 of the third when he picked up a pass from Wheeler. Brussels and Clinton played an exciting game with Brussels continu­ ing to fight from behind. Down 2-0 late in the second, two quick goals from Wheeler and White evened the tally until Clinton retook the lead a minute later. A goal by ' > 1 Jke at 2:51 of the second retied the match. Clinton went ahead at 9:15 of the third only to see Wedow score at 2:11.' Late in overtime, a play set up by Bowers and Jutzi was finished off by McClinchey for the game winner. Assists went to White, McClure, Wheeler, Blake and McClinchey. There was great goaltending by Kyle Gibson. The win put Brussels in the B final. The team tried hard in the final match against Ripley, but they seemed to run out of gas. Gibson made many great saves to keep the score close, but Brussels was downed 2-0. CONSTRUCTION LTD. The home team went on to win this one. (Vicky Bremnerphoto) Auburn tops the Stars There were a lot of big scores in weeks six, seven and eight of Blyth Industrial Hockey league play. Auburn topped the Stars 8-2von the strength of goals by Steve Plunkett (three), Brent Andrews (two), Ryan Chamney, Ben Craig and Mark Johnston. Scon ng for the Stars were Andrew Wharton and Rick Van Wyck. The Sting blasted the Chiefs 12-3. Steve Siertsema tallied five while Drew Allen and Jim Oster each hit the net twice. Adding singles were Scott Stevenson and Jack Watson. Chief scorers were Dennis Vere, Darryn McAsh and Brad Jewitt. In week seven, the Sting outscored Auburn 10-3 and the Bulldogs took the Chiefs 13-3. Multiple scorers for the Bulldogs were Mike Bromley (three), Brian Marks, Casey Boven and Darryl Bromley, who each tallied two. Jason McCash, Don Allen, Greg Blok and Shawn Bromley added to the total. Rob Wiggins, Brian Fisher and Brent McCaw netted the puck for the Chiefs.
