FROM BRUSSELS Check out our WEBSITE at www.northhuron.on.ca CIBC CONTRIBUTES $100 TO THE CITIZENS ON PATROL PROGRAM The Brussels Citizens On Patrol (C.O.P.) Program and the Village of Brussels would like to thank the Brussels CIBC Branch for their generous donation for the purchase of gas vouchers to be used by the volunteers for the C.O.P. Program. Honoured Last year's Brussels and area Citizen of *he Year, Beth Earl, right, presents the award to this year’s recipients Alice and Lyle Brotners at a special party held in their honour following the service at Brussels United Church on Sunday morning. In making the presentation Earl spoke of the pair’s community involvement, but also of their devotion for each other during a marriage that has spanned over 60 years. She said, “When I think of the characteristics of a Citizen of the Year, I think of people who go about their daily lives doing good things for their family, friends, church and community. And in that Lyle and Alice Brothers are truly deserving of this award. Their friendly, humorous and caring ways bring a smile to your face and. warmth to your heart.” (Vicky Bremnerphoto) Once again I’m reminded why I love Canada. Where else can the weather keep conversations going? Where else can blinding snow and thick fog share four days? Where else do you get to partake in democ- racy twice in a month and in between listen as our neighbours in the U.S.A, talk about chaos. Oh I do love this country. The Anglican ladies report a suc cessful bazaar on Nov.. 18 and want ed you to know you missed the ter rific Christmas goodies. The following folk are quite happy that their tickets were drawn. Marie Blake is the pleasea owner of a wooden reindeer with a sleigh full of treats. Sue Gowing, the second win ner, has a lighted porcelain house to grace her mantel. Third prize gave Kim Alcock a snowman she can keep indoors. Alice Brothers has a new porcelain doll and Yvonne Knight won the container of cookies. Enjoy your treasures ladies. The Citizen of the Year Award was presented at the Brussels United Church on Sunday. Family and friends showered praise and good wishes on Lyle and Alice Brothers for their long-term and continued support of many community groups. This neat couple deserve all the good wishes for sharing their talents, their enthusiasm, their energy and humour with us. Enjoy it Alice and Lyle. The Christmas season is here. The lights are up (not ours) the gifts are bought (not here) and the season of giving has begun (yes it’s here now). Take the time and make the effort to maintain the reason for the season as you anticipate the concerts, hum with the carols, enjoy the parties, prepare for the parades and look for ward to the 12 days of Christmas (which start Dec. 25). So keep the stress down and enjoy the Advent season. The waiting for the Baby’s birth is a time of anticipa tion, community sharing and the giv ing of love.
