Agriculture______ Brussels Livestock report Fed steers, heifers sell $l-$2 higher Total receipts at Brussels Livestock for the week ending Nov. 18 were 4,059 head of cattle and 432 lambs and goats. On Tuesday, fed steers and heifers sold $1 to $2 higher. Cows sold sharply higher. On Thursday, veal sold steady. Lambs sold steady with new crop lambs selling on a good, strong trade. On Friday, all classes of Stockers sold on a strong active trade. There were 713 steers on offer selling from $100 to $105 with sales to $115.50. One limousin steer con­ signed by Enos Wideman, Mount Forest, weighing 1,285 lbs. sold to Highland Packers Ltd. for $115.50. His overall offering of twenty-one steers averaging 1,424 lbs. selling for an average of $104.21. Brian Bearss, St. Marys, consigned fifty- two steers averaging 1,435 lbs. sell­ ing for an average of $102.19 with one gold steer weighing 1,350 lbs. selling to Norwich Packers for $115.25. J.D. Shiell, Wingham, con­ signed one black steer weighing 1,450 lbs. selling for $106.25. Rick Govers, Crediton, consigned one limo steer weighing 1,375 lbs. sell­ ing to Norwich Packers for $115.25. His overall offering of thirteen steers averaging 1,397 lbs. sold for an aver­ age of $105.45. Fourteen steers con­ signed by Merkley Farms, Wroxeter, averaging 1,378 lbs. sold for an aver­ age of $103.92 with sales to $109. Five steers consigned by Bruce Woodhouse, Clarksburg, averaging 1,315 lbs. sold for an average of $101.86 with sales to $107.25. Jim 4-H Bluevale Merry Mooers learn about milk products On Monday, Oct. 9 the Bluevale 4-H held its combination of meet­ ings one and two at the home of leader Joyce Johnston. They did a get-acquainted activity signing their name beside a description that fit them. The election of officers was held with the results as follows: presi­ dent, Emily Elston; vice-president, Keisha Bishop; secretary, Rotation; press reporter, Yvonne DeWit; youth leader, Michelle De Wit. It was decided that the club name would be the Bluevale Merry Mooers, and that Keisha Bishop would make the cover page. They sampled different kinds of milk and had to guess what each one was. They then talked about labels on milk products and how to find information on them. When done sampling they all cooked pizza, made cheesy fondue dip and pre­ pared vegetables for this. On Friday, Oct. 20 at 4:15 p.m. the Mooers held their third meeting at the home of Joyce Johnston. Emily elston, opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge. They prepared lemon berry mini cheesecakes. The youth leader did a presentation on cheese. Emily Cardiff, the secretary for previous meetings, read the minutes. The fourth meeting took place on Friday, Oct. 27 at the home of Emily Cardiff. They sampled a yogurt drink and crackers with butter on them and crackers with margarine. There were 225 heifers on offer selling from $100 to $105 with sales to $110.75. One gold heifer con­ signed by Mux Lean Farms, Woodstock, weighing 1,285 lbs. sold to Norwich Packers for $110.75. Their overall offering of fourteen heifers averaged 1,281 lbs. selling for an average of $103.38. Gordon Yeo, Clinton, consigned twelve heifers averaging 1,159 lbs. selling for an average of $100.37 with one charolais heifer weighing 1,115 lbs. selling to Dominion Meats for $108.75. Dennis Lamport, Crediton, con­ signed one RWF heifer weighing 1,140 lbs. selling to Thames Sales Yard Ltd. for $104.75. Six heifers consigned by Darren Johnston, Bluevale, averaging 1,280 lbs. sold for an average of $103.95 with sales to $105. Six heifers consigned by one. They did the same with frozen topping and real whipped cream. Then two members made butter from whipping cream. The combined meetings five and six which took place on Nov. 3. Everyone split into groups and worked on making vegetable dill dip, preparing the vegetables for that, making whole-wheat yogurt pancakes and maple butter. Michelle De Wit, brought out the game that she had prepared. This game quizzed members’ knowledge of dairy-related information. Lauderlea Farms, Listowel, consigned one limousin cow weigh­ ing 1,285 lbs. which sold for $72. One holstein cow consigned by Egon Schumacher, Tara, weighing 1,215 lbs. sold for $71. Joseph Oberle, Mildmay, consigned one holstein cow weighing 1,250 lbs. which sold for $70. There were 25 bulls on offer sell­ ing from $59 to $79.50 with sales to $81.50. Wayne Sluys, Atwood, con­ signed one limousin bull weighing meetings at the home of Amanda Dorsch. Achievement Day is to be at the Maple Organic Ice Cream Farm on Nov. 18. Books are due on this date. They decorated ice cream pizzas that Joyce Johnston had made earli­ er. Michelle De Wit and Jacquie Bishop gave a lesson on how to judge. A couple of people shared how they would judge the menus in our book and the apples that Jacquie had brought. Then everyone had a huge piece of the ice cream pizza. 1,710 lbs. selling to Dominion Meats for $81.50.
