Lightning wins again
On Sunday, Nov. 12, penalties
would prove costly in the first game
of the double-header for the visiting
Brantford team as the Lightning
Struck twice on power plays late in
the period.
Bridget Shedden opened the scor
ing unassisted and Brittany
Kellington found the comer with a
spin around shot assisted by Jackie
Zacher and Amanda Hill.
After a scoreless second period,
Katie Whytock hammered in the
rebound of Brittany Roberts midway
through the third period to complete
the scoring for the 3-0 win.
In game two, the Lightning faced a
much more disciplined Brantford
squad that finally got one past Terri
Allen after she.stopped the first three
shots in the first period. End-to-end
action and stingy netminders kept
both teams off the scoreboard in the
second period.
Early in the third, Heather Walker
picked up a loose puck and went in
all alone to snap it into the comer
and tie the game. Brantford roared
back and jumped into the lead less
than a minute later.
Roberts knotted the score when
she slid the puck under the goalie
and Hill put the Lightning into the
lead for the first time in the game

results from week five had the Stars
shine over the Chiefs by a score of 8-
5, while the Bulldogs got stung by
the Sting.
The Star that shone brightest was
Chuck Gulutzen with a hattrick,
while the Haggitts, Chad and Mike
each struck for two.
Greg Toll rounded out the scoring

with a slapshot from the top of the
circle on passes from Kellington and
Zacher with just over a minute
remaining.
Allen came up with some key
saves in the dying moments to hang
on for the Lightning win.
Saugeen-Maitland hosted the
Bluewater Bantam Girls on Nov. 19
in Howick. The Lightning rang one
off the cross bar in the first shift off
the game but couldn’t get one past
the Bluewater netminder until late in
the first when Walker from Roberts,
threaded the needle and found the
corner.
Allen blanked Bluewater in a fast-
paced second period with the oppos
ing netminder rising to the challenge
to keep her team in the game also.
Close calls at both ends brought the
fans to their feet in the third period
and pulling the Bluewater goalie late
in the game proved successful when
the puck ended up in the Saugeen net
to end the game tied at 1 -1.
Shots on goal were 24-21 in
favour of the Lightning.
Saugeen-Maitland travels to
Strathroy for a rematch next Sunday
against Bluewater to try and keep
their unbeaten streak alive. The
Lightning is currently sporting a 8-0-
2 season so far.
Bulging the twine for the Chiefs
were Mark Faloncer, Brent McCaw,
Brad Jewitt, Rob Wiggins and Derek
Hoggarth.
The ‘Dogs were overpowered by
the Sting to the tune of 7-1. Scoring
for the Sting were Scott Stevenson
and Jack Watson with two, Darrryl
Chalmers, Jim Oster and Jason Cox.
The lone Bulldog marker was scored
by Chris Taylor.
