Students created many snow on magnets and built buildings with base 10 blocks in math. Grade 7/8s started the novel Shane sculptures at recess time. Grade 3s this week made Santa Claus parade posters. They continued a study on pioneers, did a science experiment by Jack Schaefer. In history they are studying pioneer life and early set­ tlement of Upper Canada. For sci­ ence they have the topic of water and ink and stencils, I i mazes and ice cube paintings. Two weeks ago, the KA/KB/KC children were learning about the let­ ter T. They created and painted tur­ tles, trains and teapots. They also learned to use sparkly dobbers to decorate stars. At the computers with Mrs. Newman, the kindergartens tried Sammy’s Science House, Plumo or Bailey’s book House. The big surprise was a wonderful tea party in honour of the letter T. They sat around a large table, sipped tea and ate tea biscuit cookies. In the Grade 4 classroom they are studying the Great Blue Herons in P.E.I. They are also starting their unit on rocks. In music they have begun learning Christmas songs. Grade 7/8s did the Remembrance Day Service on Thursday, Nov. 9. It went really well. In SCC, students have learned a new writing process called TOWER (Think. Organize, Write, Edit and Rew'rite), to write stories about the war. Each day they read stories relat­ ed to Remembrance Day. Fifty Christmas boxes were pack­ aged for the Samaritan’s Purse, so 50 children from a Third World Country will have a Christmas present.
