It’s nearing the end of November and you haven’t bought, made or built any Christmas gifts. Here at Huronlea the green foliage and the red bows make everything festive so get with it. Many years ago my husband received a beautifully hand-knit sock from his sister with a note saying “the other one was not quite finished, but it would follow shortly.” The next Christmas approached and still no “other sock”. My hus band sent it back with a note saying, “This sock needs his mate. Please send immediately.” Well the sock went back and forth for over 20 years and became a Christmas ritual, and that in my book is the spirit of Christmas. — NOVEMBER SPECIAL — Ladies' & Men's Streaks or Highlites including cut $25°° A Gift to Treasure for a lifetime Solid Oak, Pine & Cherry furniture Please Recycle This Newspaper GEORGE OF BRUSSELS 472 Turnberry St. Brussels 887-6751 - Appointment not always needed ~ The winners Winners of the Legion’s Remembrance Day business competition were presented with their prize money last week. The blanket of snow looks so pret ty - all clean and sparkling except at Lions Park Hill where the kids are immediately drawn to use it as it’s been used for years Yes, winter fun. Sunday was recognized as Children’s Day - a small notice of the 1989 International Year of the Child. If you didn’t hug a kid on Sunday - make up for it now and hug two. Sometimes we need to be reminded to cherish the children - our finest treasures. Hello Brook. Culver, Indiana had Brussels visitors last weekend. Mother Brenda Wheeler and friends Mary and Lesley Stretton and Margaret Jarvis spent their visit meeting teachers and friends and being tourists. They had a good time and tell me that Brooklyn will be home mid-December with her friend Katrin from Germany. So keep an eye for Brook and Katrin during the Christmas holidays and say hello. Don’t forget the 5R’s annual meet ing at St. Ambrose Church Thursday night. We like to think the store is an important part of the village so sup port the board by attending the meet ing at 7:30 p.m. Potluck dinner is at 6:30 p.m. Several carloads from Brussels were seen at The Centre In The Square this past week. Neighbours, friends, co-workers and relatives were there to support Justin Ruttan and John Watson. The show Jesus Christ Superstar was very well done from costumes, to dancing, to orchestra, to acting, singing and lighting. An excellent job by all involved. It was great to see disciples in cargo pants and of course sandals, Herod in a two-piece yellow suit and leather pants on Judas. Good thought provoker and great entertainment. Save Dec. 2 for the parade, Dec. 10 for the village choirs and Dec. 21 for carols at the United Church. Have fun! Betty G.W.
