He was in his 80th year. Bom in Morris Twp. on Nov. 12, 1920, Ross was the son of the late Francis and Rachael Duncan and the beloved husband of the former Kaye Upper. As a younger man, Ross was quite athletic playing both hockey and football. He joined the army dur­ ing the second world war, served overseas and at war’s end returned home to operate the family farm. Ross loved travelling, camping, hunting, playing cards, his flowers (roses) and had a great sense of humour. Ross was a wonderful husband and father, a man very close to his family who will be missed by all. Ross will be sadly missed by his wife Kaye and his children David Duncan and his wife Carol of Wasaga Beach, Larry Duncan and his wife Judy of Yarrow, B.C. and Jim Duncan and his wife Helen of Russell. Manitoba. He was the dear brother of Don Duncan and his wife Doris of New Hamburg. He was also loved by his seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Friends were received by the fam­ ily Sunday at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, Brussels, where the funeral service was conducted in the chapel on Monday, Nov. 13, 2000 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Cathrine Campbell officiating. Interment was in Brussels Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charlie Shaw, John Cousins, Ross McEwan, Del Hastings, Sean Upper and Don Dunbar. Acting as honorary pall­ bearers were Gerald Gibson and Alf Sutton. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Brussels Legion No. 218 RCL or to the charity of one’s choice. A masonic service held under the auspices of St. John’s Lodge No. 284 AF & AM, GRC was conducted at the funeral home Sunday evening at 9 p.m. followed by a Legion service held under the auspices of Brussels Legion No. 218 RCL at 9:15 p.m. WILLIAM ALEXANDER MANNING Mr. William Alexander Manning of Blyth passed away on Friday, Nov. 10, 2000. He was 74. Mr. Manning was born in Hullett parents of (7 lbs., 12 oz.) Darren Joseph, who was bom on Nov. 10 to Brent and Sherry Evans. Jonathan and Rhoda Stoll with children Christopher, Nathan and Cheyanne are leaving the Cranbrook community for a time to move to Hudson, Ontario. We wish them a happy stay there. The church’s ham fundraising sup­ per took place at the Cranbrook Community Centre last Thursday. It was well attended and it was good to see so many supporters there. Twp. on July 24, 1926 to the late Alexander and Mary (Patterson) Manning. The family moved to Belgrave soon after his birth, then came to Blyth in 1945, where his father operated a planing mill. The following year Mr. Manning went west on his third harvest excur­ sion. In his early employment, Mr. Manning worked with a local butch­ er Harvey McCallum, then spent one year working for a butcher in Hamilton. In 1948 he joined his father and brother, John, in the lumber compa­ ny. The business was sold in 1978. Mr. Manning was the beloved hus­ band of the former Thelma Bennett. He was the loving father of Garry Manning of Toronto, Keith and Christine Manning of Comerbrook, Newfoundland. He was the special grandfather of Janesta and dear brother and brother-in-law of John and Muriel Manning of Blyth and Edwin Bennett of Goderich. Friends were received at the Blyth Visitation Centre on Sunday where the funeral service was held on Monday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. Rev. Ernest Dow officiated. Interment was in Blyth Union We are wondering if there are any people interested in playing darts once a week at the Cranbrook Community Centre. If so contact Sharon Evans (887-6583) or Murray Keffer (887-9100). If enough people are interested regular dart playing could be organized. A euchre party will be held at the community centre in Cranbrook on Nov. 17 at 8p.m., please bring lunch. The cosy downstairs location with stairless easy access continues to be appreciated. NORMAN C. NICHOLSON Mr. Norman Clayton Nicholson of Atwood passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Nov. 2, 2000. He was 88. Bom on Oct. 23, 1912 in Hullett Twp. he was the son of the late Nelson Nicholson and Martha Storey. In 1916 he moved with his parents to the eighth line of Morris where he grew up and farmed for many years. Burial was in Maitlandbank Cemetery, Seaforth. Pallbearers were Gordon Nicholson, Gary Nicholson, Donald Nicholson, Harold Srigley, Ralph Henderson and Cloyd Schiestel.
