Blyth council briefs Hirings continue for Twp. of North Huron FROM BLYTH Amalgamation matters were dis­ cussed at the Nov. 6 session of Blyth council. Councillor Jeff Howson advised that a contractor had been hired to begin renovations to Wingham Town Hall to accommodate the needs of the North Huron municipality. Blyth Clerk-Treasurer John Stewart reported further hirings which had been made. Julie Wheeler was hired as the deputy­ treasurer, Bill Bromley as the Blyth urban operator and Graham Jackson as the cemetery caretaker. *** A bylaw was passed authorizing Reeve Mason Bailey and Stewart to sign agreements with the Ontario Clean Water Agency to operate the sewage treatment plant and water works system. *** There were no objections to the closing of Queen Street, Dec. I, for the Santa Claus parade. *** Approval was given for the writ­ ing off of property taxes on the Robert Howard estate and the Royal Canadian Legion.*** Payment of $1,151.07 to Carey and Ottewell was approved by coun­ cil.*** Council supported a letter from Huron-Bruce MP Paul Steckle regarding opposition of a proposed ban on the use of road salt.*** Support was given to a request from Wingham council.for addition­ al customs clearance at Wingham airport. *** There were no objections to the Alzheimer Society of Huron County decorating a tree with blue lights or ribbons in the village during the Christmas season.*** In response to a question from Joe Hallahan, Stewart said Hydro One would be looking after hydro prob­ lems in the village following the sale. (Vicky Bremnerphoto) Scouting news The 1st Blyth Group Committee met at the Blyth Public School on Nov. 6 to update on current activi­ ties and to plan for future events. There are now 61 youths and 17 adults registered. Membership is drawn from Auburn, Belgrave, Blyth, Londesboro, and the rural communities in between. The $50 membership fee charged to register in 1st Blyth Scouting does not stay at the local level. For that reason operating funds have to be obtained through fundraisers, and from the annual donations of the two sponsors, Blyth Legion, Branch 420, and the Blyth Lions Club.
