Over 650 attend Duff’s annual turkey supper Betty McCallum greeted worship­ pers at Duff’s United Church on Nov. 5. Joan Tuchlinsky opened the serv­ ice with the responsive Call to Worship. She announced that the turkey supper held this year at the Brussels arena was a great success with at least 650 people having been fed. A big thank you to all those who came to partake of the great meal and to all those who worked so hard. Transition board continues hiring process There will be a Remembrance Day service Nov. 11 at Brussels United Church, following the service at the Legion.* Ministers will be Joan Golden and Joan Tuchlinsky. The UCW planning/business meeting at the church will be Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. Bring planners and some good ideas for programs, etc. Marie McGavin read the scripture lessons. Joan’s sermon was called, “Love is ...”. At the Oct. 23 meeting, the Huron East transition board continued the process of hiring. Doug Hugill will be manager at the Seaforth and District Community Centre, Murray McArter will continue as manager of the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre and Lisa Berard will continue as the manager of the Vanastra Recreation Centre. Marty Bedard has been hired as a full-time employee at the Seaforth and District Community Centre. Administrative positions were also filled with the hiring of the follow- .staff ing staff: Janice Andrews (Secretary/Receptionist); Connie Marion (Tax and Utility Billing Clerk); Lorraine Bettles (Accounts Payable/Receivable and Recreation Accounting Clerk); Barb Dalrymple (Payroll/Personnel Clerk Drainage Administration); and Cathy Garrick (Planning and Public Works Administration). The board passed a resolution indicating that the three Huron East fire departments' (Seaforth, Brussels and Grey) would continue to operate on a status quo basis until the new council reviews and addresses issues pertaining to the fire departments. The board did not accept a report to hire municipal staff to operate the water and sewer systems and deferred a decision on the hiring of until OCWA, Phillips Environmental and the Stratford PUC were given the opportunity to tender for the operation of the water and sewer systems.
