(VickyBremnerphoto) Girls down Lucan The Brussels/Belgrave Bantam girls travelled to Lucan Friday, Nov. 3. They came out firing on all cylin ders. Michelle Cook opened the scoring at 11:57 of the first on a nice set up by Brittany Campbell. Campbell sent Cook in alone at 5:32 to increase the lead by two. A solo effort by Cook at 3:53 netted her the hattrick and put Brussels/Belgrave into a commanding lead. Rachel Elliott slipped a sharp wrist shot by the Lucan goalie at 1:03 assisted by Cook. Cook and Campbell teamed up with 24 sec onds left to close out the first period up by five. Campbell took a pass from Jenny Hopf and scored at 7:23. Cook slammed in another goal of 5:36 off a pass by Michelle Nixon. Ashley Ritchie led the team out with a goal at 14:07 of the third set up by Campbell. Campbell then scored, with a helper from Cook. Lucan broke the shutout bid by Berfeltz with a goal at 1:52 of the third. Cook dashed down the ice with 1:34 to go and scored on a wrist shot to send the Brussels/Belgrave total to double digits and end the game by a 10-1 score. Berf eltz was very solid in the Brussels/Belgrave net discourag ing the Lucan shooters. The trip to Lambeth for an early morning game Saturday continued the success for the girls. Nixon sparked the Brussels/Belgrave attack with a goal at 8:47 of the opening period. Cook added to that score with a marker at 6:34 assisted by Ritchie. Cook then scored on a individual effort at 3:59. Kristen Palmer slapped a rebound by the goalie nine seconds later set up by Hopf. Campbell scored on a wrap-around shot at 7:57 of the second unassisted. Ritch;e sent Cook in alone and a nice deke beat the Lambeth netminder with 7:07 to go. Cook and Ritchie combined again to start the third with Cook registering the goal at 13:09. Cook struck again at 12:14 set up by Ritchie. Palmer scored her second goal on a nice pass by Hopf to end the game with a 9-0 victory for Brussels/Belgrave. Nikki Berfeltz did an excellent job in recording her first shutout of the year. The girls were edged by Elma Logan when they met Oct. 31. Campbell got things going as she slapped a puck by the Elma Logan goalie at 5:44 of the first period. Nixon and Procter got the assists. The home team tied it before the period was over when a powerplay shot was deflected off a forward’s leg in front and bounced over Berfeltz in the Brussels/Belgrave net. The teams continued to seesaw back and forth with great end-to-end action. Berfeltz came up big on a goal mouth scramble and a loose puck which came out to an open payer on the opposite side of the net. She dove over in dramatic fashion, deflecting the puck out of danger. The Elma Logan team was award ed another powerplay midway through the third period. The penalty killing duo of Campbell and Cook took the offen sive and sent a barrage of shots at the Elma Logan net but failed to capital ize. Elma Logan made a rush up the ice as the powerplay was nearing the end and a quick wrist shot by the left winger beat Berfeltz to give them the 2-1 lead. They held on in spite of good pres sure by Brussels/Belgrave.
