Leanne’s Place open for business By Janice Becker Citizen staff Situated in a shop at the north end of Brussels’* business district, is the consignment store recently opened by Leanne Minielly. After working at the other con­ signment shop in the village, Minielly decided to start her own business, Leanne’s Place, when her employer opted to close. Carrying with her some of the con­ signees from the previous operation, Minielly now has approximately 35 clients who regularly supply her with new and used items. Mixed in with the handcrafted items, from woodworking to wreaths and floral arrangements, Leanne’s From giftware to clothing The consignment shop, Leanne’s Place on Turnberry Street in Brussels, operated by Leanne Minielly, offers a wide vari­ ety of collectibles, toys and handcrafted items. Brussels PS news Students see ‘Peter Pan’ By Julia Mason and Joel Wilkinson The Brussels kindergarten stu­ dents have been making binoculars with toilet paper rolls, string and paint. On Friday, Oct. 27 both classes attended Peter Pan at the Blyth Festival. Grade Is also went to the Peter Pan performance. They are also working on math and spelling. The Grade 2 class has been mak­ ing Halloween crafts and enjoyed Peter Pan. The Grade 3/4s have been work­ ing on spelling. In 4/5 room they begun an ant unit in French class. They are also work­ ing on maps. The Grade 5/6s had a science test on vertebrates. The next unit in math is patterning. They also had a pizza party to conclude their French unit. The Grade 8s have been learning a French song and are working on geography projects of different countries. They are almost finished their scrapbook project in art class Place also offers good quality used clothing for children (mainly), toys, housewares, collectibles, giftware and a few antiques. A craftsperson herself, Minielly creates covered photo albums, Victorian tea cups, autumn wreaths and little jewel boxes. With Christmas approaching, she and several other women in the vil­ lage are working on seasonal items, many of which can be viewed at her open house which she is planning to hold in early December. and have really enjoyed it. They pre­ pared their haunted house for the community to go through on Halloween. They are planning a penny carnival on Halloween day for the primary students at the school. She currently received goods from as far away as Toronto, Welland, Simcoe and Lucan. Minielly prefers the clients set the sale price for their goods. She then receives 25 per cent after the sale. Leanne’s Place is open from 10 a.m. to 5 pm. Monday through Saturday. one would like to buy one they can get one at the office. The school would like to thank anyone who donated to students on Halloween for the Walkerton Water Relief Fund.
