Brussels Livestock report
Heifers reach $107.75, avg. $95 to $100
Total receipts at Brussels
Livestock for the week ending Oct.
21 were 4,182 head of cattle and 327
lambs and goats.
On Tuesday a big volume of heavy
cattle (1500-1600 lbs.) forced the
market $1 lower. Top choice cattle
sold barely steady. Cows sold on a
steady market. Veal sold steady.
Lambs traded on a good active
strong trade. On Friday and
Saturday, all weights of calves and
yearlings traded on a strong active
trade.
There were 800 steers on offer
selling from $95 to $100 with sales
to $120. A limousin steer consigned
by Douglas Walker, Wingham,
weighing 1,285 lbs. sold to Norwich
Packers for $120. His overall
offering of four steers averaged
1,385 lbs. and sold for an average of
$110.21. A limousin steer consigned
by Schmidt Brook Farms,
Woodstock, weighing 1,255 lbs. sold
to Norwich Packers for $113.75.

Pork Producers host seminar
A continuing education seminar
for pork producers will be held in the
Shakespeare Community Centre on
Wednesday, Nov. 29 between 9:15
a.m. and 3 p.m.
The seminar, sponsored by the
Ontario Pork Producers Marketing
Board, the Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs
and the Ontario Agricultural
Training Institute is entitled “Recent
Developments in Pork Production
from Birth to Market.”
Speakers at the seminar include
Florian Possberg from Big Sky,
Saskatchewan, Dr. Morgan Morrow
from North Carolina State
University and Bill Balantyne from
Maple Leaf Pork. A total of 12
presentations will cover a variety of
steers averaged 1,444 lbs. and sold
for an average of $98.30.

Rick Govers, Crediton, weighing
1,350 lbs. sold to Dominion Meats
for $112. His overall offering of
twelve steers averaged 1,415 lbs. and
sold for an average of $101.15.
Walter McKenzie, Dublin, consigned
four steers averaging 1,530 lbs.
which sold for an average of $100.59
with sales to $107. Ten steers
consigned by Brian Wideman,
Gowanstown,'averaging 1,344 lbs.
sold for an average of $97.71 with
sales up to $106.50. Eighteen steers
consigned by Lloyd Frey, Harriston,
averaging 1,414 lbs. sold for an
average of $97.64 with one limousin
steer weighing 1,330 lbs. selling for
$110.
A limousin steer consigned by D.
M. McAlpine Farms, Ailsa Craig,
weighed 1,475 lbs. sold to Norwich
Packers for $110.75. Their overall
offering of 40 steers averaged 1,445
lbs. and sold for an average of

5000 sow farms, practical on-farm
euthanasia of casualty pigs, making
sense of well water test results,
avoiding physical residues in pork
and the use of irradiation to provide
the ultimate in food safety.

averaging 1,275 lbs. sold to
Highland Packers Limited for
$106.75. His overall offering of
eighteen heifers averaged 1,270 lbs.
and sold for an average of $99.86. A
limousin heifer consigned by
Merkley Farms, Wroxeter, weighing
1,215 lbs. sold to Norwich Packers
for $ 107.75. Their overall offering of
the door. Additional individuals from
the same farm may attend for $20
each.
