presents
information
On Saturday, Oct. 28 from 8:30
a.m. to 12:30 p.m., parents,
educators and other individuals
interested in educational topics will
gather at Stratford Northwestern
Secondary School for School
Council Forum 2000.
This event offers a keynote
presentation on The Future of Public
Education, by Liz Sandals, trustee at
the Upper Grand District School
Board and president of the Ontario
Public School Boards’ Association.
Workshops and displays will give
participants a taste of many aspects
of the public education system and
its related services for students.
These include presentations on early
literacy, school councils,
fundraising, risk management for
volunteers, secondary school issues,
special education, managing
change, and communications.
Displays will feature many
community organizations that work
closely alongside the district school
board in serving young people.
This year’s forum has been
planned by a group of parent and
community volunteers, who are all
members of school councils in
Stratford. Each year the forum
moves to a different school in the
district, becoming the responsibility
of school council members from the
local group of schools.
The event is an initiative of the
Avon Maitland District School
Board through its School Council
Liaison Committee, a board
committee with representation from
across the district.
Registration is still open to
anyone interested in attending.
Visitors on the day are welcome to
attend workshops as space allows.

throughout the service singing such
songs as Amazing Grace, Operator,

beautiful anthem, Praise God.
The children, 10 in total, brought
forth their music in the form of bells,
playing Go Now in Peace.
Readers for the service were
Graeme Craig and Laura Black.
Joan Tuchlinsky announced the birth
of Jessica Faith Kelso, daughter of
Heather (McGavin) and Bryan. She
arrived a little early but both her and
mom are doing fine.
Joan gave her reflection on faith,
the size of a mustard seed.

To me, being able to organize
events is a gift, and so having said
that, I’d like to congratulate Gloria
Wilbee and Judy Emmrich for
organizing such a great mystery tour
for 17 Walton United Church
Women on Saturday.
The ladies met at the church, then
proceeded on the tour riding with
selected drivers who knew the
destinations.
The first stop was at Brickman’s
Botanical Gardens near Wartburg.
Most of the ladies had never been
there and as they were taken on a
guided tour, learned a lot about all
the different perennials that were
growing there. If you are planning a
perennial garden at some point, this
would be a great place to go to see
just how tall and large the different
plants grow. It would be a beautiful
spot to walk through in the spring
and summer when everything is in
bloom.
The ladies got back into the
cars and headed for the next point
of interest. It wasn't until lots
of horse and buggies were seen
that they realized they were at
Millbank where they enjoyed
touring through Millbank Family
Furniture. If you have never been
there you will surely enjoy seeing
the most beautiful homemade
furniture.
Of course Anna Mae’s was just
around the corner so everyone
guessed where dinner was to be. It
was a full house and they had to wait
for awhile but the delicious roast
beef supper with various desserts
was well worth the wait.
The ladies were then blessed with
words of encouragement and healing
from Tina Heathers PhD, MBA,
Reiki Master. After giving their
thanks to Heather, the ladies also
thanked Gloria and Judy for a
fantastic tour.
Speaking about organizers,
Shannon Gibbons once again is
putting on the third annual haunted
house at the Walton Hall on Friday,
Oct. 27. Trust me, with the wild
imaginings of Shannon and her
brother, Trevor and some of their
teen and adult ghoulish friends this
night promises to be a spooky, fun
night.
It runs from 6 - 10 p.m. for
children of all ages. There will be
games and eating, a Halloween
costume judging event and dancing
later on. Kids are asked to bring
goodies to share and a silver
collection will help defray the costs
of the evening.
I must wam everyone to watch out
for the Grim Reaper, the Witch that
loves to eat little kids, (you can tell
by the size of her that she loves her
food), the crazed chef at his Road
Kill Cafe, the mad and horrible,
hunchbacked hangman and much
more.
See you there ... those who dare to
come out!
For some of the residents in
Walton who found yellow garbage
bags full of leaves in their yard
Saturday morning just smile and be
thankful, then try to guess who did
it. Who were these kind, thoughtful
souls who get up very early in the
morning to do such kind deeds? I bet
that there are a lot of you who hope
that they will return as more leaves
descend.
