Brussels council discusses 9-1-1 issues The sale of the PUC took another step Oct 2 when Brussels council authorized the signing of an Ontario Energy Board letter. Clerk-Treasurer Donna White told councillors that there has been a lot of extra work involved with the transfer of customer data and noted that all accounts need to be paid in full. “We are really having to take some tough measures with arrears,” she said. The PUC is planning to hold a public meeting in the future to explain to village residents what the sale will mean with regards to the payment of bills and and who they would contact with questions or concerns. *** White reported that there are still 17 properties that do not have 9-1-1 numbers posted. She said as well that people should check their listing prior to when the new phone book is done and notify Bell Canada of afiy changes. *** White told council that a letter had been received from the county’s 9-1- 1 co-ordinator stating that with amalgamation any duplicate street names will have to be changed. For example if there’s a King Street in Brussels, there can’t be one in Seaforth. “Lori (Pipe, the deputy clerk- treasurer)and Hugh (Nichol, the road superintendent) began working on getting the names straightened around in the village for 9-1-1 four years ago. Now because of Huron East we’re back at it again.’ White hopes that if the numbers don’t overlap in the two wards then some of the duplication may be able to stay. Delcan has been appointed to work on the engineer’s report for the Ministry’s new water regulations. The biggest thing. White said, regarding the village’s water supply is for a chlorinator for the back-up well. “All samples have been great,” she said.
