We can be thankful for all the good It’s just Smee There were hoots and hollers, giggles and laughs when the Dufflebag Theatre troupe arrived in Blyth last week for the kickoff of their 2000 season. Performing their version of Peter Pan to a full house of elementary school children, the four actors had the audience fully involved in the show. Jim Douchette brings chuckles as silly Smee, Captain, Hook’s sidekick. Tickets are available by calling the Blyth Festival box office. Dufflebag will perform at Blyth Memorial Hall, twice daily at 10:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. on Oct 23-26. Local musicians plan special event A special evening of music, Oct. 20 will benefit the Clinton Public Hospital’s outpatient care program. Featured enertainers at the show will be Seaforth Harmony Hi-Lites and the Goderich Harbouraires, Renee Stalenhoef and Susan Hay. The Harmony Hi-Lites are a 25- member chapter of Harmony Inc., an international organization of women barbershop singers. They have been singing in the area for 15 years. The Hi-Lites have participated in international contests in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Illinois, New York and Indianapolis. The Goderich Harbouraires were founded in 1947. The idea of a men’s chorus was brought back by ex-ser­ vicemen who had heard several men’s groups while serving over­ seas. Each year the chorus performs at special concerts. In 1977 the Harbouraires produces a recording of World War II songs entitled Precious Men for the Goderich branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. Stalenhoef was born in The Netherlands and moved with her husband Walter to Huron County in things in our lives but we should always remember how we got them. We should take time to remember those who came before us, who served in our military, who served overseas and fought to preserve our 1983 after an extensive career in opera and oratorium. Over the years she has established herself as a per­ former and vocal coach. Hay, a resident of Hullett Twp., is an accomplished pianist. The next regular euchre will be Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. Fry re-elected as president of Huron Bruce Liberals The Huron Provincial Liberal Association held its annual general meeting at the Lucknow Community Centre last Tuesday. Dennis Fry was re-elected as pres­ ident and several policies were passed by the group to be considered by Provincial Liberals later this month. David Levac, MPP from Brant County, corrections critic and solici­ tor general addressed the group warning them about the implications of the privatization of Ontario jails.
