A NOTE FROM BETTY FROM BRUSSELS By Betty Graber Watson Call 887-6236 887-9231 Well, have you got the turkey all tucked away or are you still staring at the carcass every time you open the fridge door? It seems to me it’s as much work stashing the leftovers as it-is getting the meal ready to roll. Thanksgiving is such a neat holi day, no gifts to fuss about, no heavy boots to wrestle with and no sun screen to apply, just family, friends and foods to enjoy. There were lots of visitors around on the weekend, kids home from the city, relatives doing the last family check before winter sets in and everyone getting together for a traditional meal. We have much to be thankful for and it is good to pause and name them. I hope you had a good Thanksgiving Day. Main street has a new business. Drop in and say hello to Leanne and get some gift ideas for the upcoming season which I won’t mention yet. Tyler Vandermeer, son of Patty and Jason was welcomed into the United Church on Sunday and was so thrilled by the experience he slept through the sacrament. Auht Katie, home from school in Ottaw'a, tried her best to waken him subtly but he had his schedule to keep. Lots of family from here and as far away as Thunder Bay were at church to cele brate the gift of Tyler in their lives. Friday is your last day to get your election papers in to your municipal office, so take your 100 bucks and get your papers filed so we can vote for you. I had my first Watson Thanksgiving with Alma and crew and felt very welcomed in their midst. John from Kitchener was busy selling tickets for the K-W Production of Jesus Christ Superstar in which he plays Thomas, one of the disciples. It’s advertised in The Record so he was doing his personal sales pitch which worked. Justin Ruttan who used to live on the fifth of Morris also plays a disciple. Bev Brown would like to personal ly invite you to the Mennonite Church on Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday to check out the neat stuff for sale at The Ten Thousand Villages sale. This is a great opportu nity to help the folks in the Third World while you do some unique shopping. So hit the north end of town tomorrow. Did you enjoy that white stuff in the air? Bye now. With the cold, wet weather, the ‘perpetrators’ were the only ones in the parking lot, however, cooling it in a makeshift jail. People could have a friend, co-worker, etc. jailed for $5 per half hour. Proceeds went to the Optimist Club. Some committee members, he said, were . trongly opposed to the cost of the project which is for reno vations to the administration office to update and accommodate staff. Theagh the board had recommended a cost of $200,000, approval was given to a tender of $248,075, plus engineering costs. Brussels Councillor Mary Stretton, who sits on the transition committee with Watson, told coun cillors that this was the lowest of the tenders submitted for the necessary work. Watson’s concern, he said, is that he feels it’s money thrown out the window. “We won’t be there in three years,” he said. “This is a personal feeling, but from the talk coming down from Toronto, I believe the Lodge meets Morning Star Rebekah Lodge, Brussels held its regular meeting on Sept. 26.
