Amy Ross was named first runner-up. Sunday was a busy day on Tumberry Street. Waneta Leishman and crew got the Terry Fox Run off on the right (or maybe left) foot to support the work of one of our Canadian heroes. Terry Fox is one of those names that everyone can relate to, who after 20 years still makes people think of hope and cancer in the same thought. We need more Terrys in our lives. Meanwhile the Zone C-l of the Legion was forming up at Huronlea to start out their fall convention. They paraded down to the Legion to the swirl of the pipes. Good to see them. Four beautiful, talented young women put their community spirit on the mark as they let their names stand to be Ambassador of the Fair on Friday night. Reports to me were that the evening was a success with good company, great entertainment and of course excellent food. Would we expect anything less from the fair board. Patricia Wilbee will represent An Open Invitation to Un Stettler's “Mayor of Huron East" Campaign Kick-Off Sunday, October 1,2000 2-5 p.m. Seaforth Golf & Country Club Come out and support Lin Stef tier for Mayor of Huron East our community at upcoming fair events. Thanks ladies. You make us look good. These three events got me thinking about volunteers and time spent for the improvement of lives. A lot of work is done prior to any event and only those who have been there real ize the time commitment that keeps communities viable. At one time the statistic was around that two per cent of the population does the majority of the volunteer work. So to the vol unteers of the weekend and those who keep other events and services alive, thank you. To those who are not giving time and talent to at least two community based groups - why not? Take time to think what makes this a good place to live and then offer to support that work. Members, money, ideas and interest are always welcome. Make the group’s day and offer to help - they’ll love you. The weather has been conducive to fall strolls. See if you can find the mountain ash that is growing out of the Brussels maple. It’s a nifty sight. Enjoy the beautiful fall days and see you at the fair.
