.A successful meeting of the Literary
Society was held last Friday evening
under the direction of L. S. Winch
and his committee. The address of
the evening was given by A. L, Poeliff.
Principal of Wingham Public School,
on the Political Growth of Canada.
The speaker .traced in .an interesting
way the gradual development of demo-
cratic government from the beginning
of British rule in Canada . through its
various struggles: and victories up to
the broad level of freedom which was
brought in with 'confederation and
closed by giving a clear picture "of the
machery of government from the con-
trol of local affairs to national legis.

program were, the Royal Philhar-
monic orchestra composed of the boys
of Bluevale school under the leader-
ship of to S. Winch and a Pantomime
1 entitled, "Seen at a Railway Station."
The orchestra on a great success both
musically and scenically acid the

the audience both to laughter and

Mre. W. P. Darnell, whose husband
the late Sergt. Darnell was killed
while serving his king and country on
Dec, 20th, received the following com-
forting Letters from Belgium:—

funeral this morning. I am glad to be
able to tell you that we were able to
give him Ohrietian burial in the little
cemetery at Regimental Headquarters.
