S. Winch and his committee. The address of the evening was given by A. L, Poeliff. Principal of Wingham Public School, on the Political Growth of Canada. I am glad to be able to tell you that we were able to give him Ohrietian burial in the little cemetery at Regimental Headquarters. half a mile in rear of the firing line. The burial wan quiet and attended by hie comrades of his platoon. Father Doe conducted the service and the grave will be properly marked .and a nice cross erected; the father, told me he would write you. Beret. Darnell died at about 4,15 pen. of the 29th of December with a smile on his lips; he was hit by a rifle grenade while warning his _Comrades to safety. - It may be some consolation rer you in your sad grief to, know he tliec `doing his duty .and saved his men from possible death. Your husband. was my Platoon Sergeant and while I only knewbins a month, in that short time I found that he was a good Bendier, always ready to do his duty.
