Started two years ago, it is enticing the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of some of those original threshers to come out for the three-day event. Organized by Edgar Daer of East Wawanosh Twp., the tractor pull is geared to children between the ages of eight and 15 who would like to follow in the footsteps of those who pull with full-sized machines. Though invofved in the adult tractor pull for years, Daer said it was his grandson Cody’s interest that encouraged him to suggest the junior pull to Thresher organizers. Cody has been involved for a few years and has begun to win competitions. The Huron Pioneer Thresher Reunion kids’ tractor pull holds a practice run on Saturday afternoon and the actual competition begins Sunday between 3 and 3:30 p.m. Participants must have a parent or guardian who is a member of the thresher association who has given signed consent and will be present during the pull. Competition is divided by weight class of the antique tractor (1978 or older) plus the rider into zero to 400 lbs, 401 to 600 lbs, 601 to 800 lbs. categories. Pullers must provide their own tractor and it can be used for only one pull per class.
