Obituaries Mr. Clare Vincent of Goderich, formerly of Londesborough, passed away at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000 in his 85th year. He was the beloved husband of Ruth (Capling) Vincent and loving father of Donald and Frances Vincent of Hanna, Alberta, William and Lorna Vincent of Hullett Twp., and Elaine Vincent of Victoria, B.C. He was the cherished grandfather of Elvis Vincent, Annette and Todd Edgar, Jodi Vincent and Blaine Vincent. He was the dear brother and brother-in-law of Ruth McDiarmid of Hamilton, Helen McPhee of Guelph and Annie Vincent of Clinton. Mr. Vincent was predeceased by two sisters Mae Hutton and Margaret Brewer and by one brother Norman Vincent. Throughout his life Clare was ded­ icated to service and community. He became a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 420 Blyth in 1946. He served as president in 1955-1956, secretary from 1957- I984 and treasurer from 1972-1984. While continuing to fulfill these duties at the branch level, he also served as secretary of Zone CI from 1979-1984. He was awarded the Meritorial Service medal and became a life member in 1986. Clare was also an active communi­ ty leader. In I960 he became a coun­ cillor for Hullett Twp., a position he held until 1966. The following year he began serving as reeve. That July he became clerk-treasurer for the municipality, a position he held until September of 1979. He served as councillor once again from 1981-1985. Clare has also been a member of the Huron Pioneer Thresher Association for much of its 40-year history. He was known as a working member and someone always there to help out. Clare is also Past District Deputy Grand Master of Hullett Lodge #568. He was district representative of ROMA Insurance Association, and a member of Londesborough United Church. In 1985 her was named Citizen of the Year for Hullett Twp. Clare was also much loved for his poetry and humour. At Clare’s request there was no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations to the charity of one's choice would be greatly appre­ ciated. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Beattie-Falconer Funeral Home, Clinton. MARY HELEN TURVEY Mrs. Mary Helen Turvey of Wingham passed away at Braemar Retirement Centre, Turnberry Twp. on Friday, Aug. 18, 2000. She was 79. The former Mary Helen Kerr was the beloved wife of Ross Turvey. She was the dear mother of Linda Silent scream Participants in a mimed performance of Little Red Riding Hood entertained parents Friday evening at the Blyth Community Centre. Appearing in the performance were Jolande Amoraal, Veronica Knight and Courtney Amoraal. Shannon Scott, who is holding several theatre workshops this summer, directed the skit. Visitation was at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Sunday, Aug. 20 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral service was held at the funeral home on Monday, Aug. 21 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiating. Interment will be in Brussels Cemetery, Morris Twp. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
